Please Support Our Site

Please support our site and help keep our tribute alive.  We don't make any money from this site.  All donations received, as well as all proceeds earned from the sale of merchandise and ads, go to two places.  The first is to pay for the monthly costs of running the site and the second is to our AZWL Benevolent Fund.

The fund helps those Arizona Wrestling Legends in time of need.  In the past, our main use for the funds has been to provide travel assistance (such as hotel rooms) to our legends traveling to our annual reunion from out of state.

Thank you for your generousity.  We sincerely appreciate your support.

Professional Name:"Mad Dog" Marcial Bovee (1979 - 1986),"Mad Dog" Marcial Bovee The Time Traveler (1986 - 1999; 2003-???)

Turned Pro:1979

Trained By: "I was trained by 'Maniac' Mike Gordon, David Rose and others who gave input as we went along. It was a rough first few years, for them more than me."

Hometown: "I was born in Akron, Ohio, but grew up in Glendale, Arizona. Bovee was supposedly from Faro, Portugal and the Time Traveler is from Everywhere and Nowhere."

Height: 5'10"

Wrestling Weight: "220 pounds then. Now, no comment."

Territories Worked In: "Mainly indies. Arizona and California in particular, but also the Mexican border, Canadian border, Ohio, Tennessee (for the late Joey Rossi and his small promotion), Alabama, Kentucky, Colorado, and some other places. The west was my stronghold."

Toughest Opponents: Jody Arnold.

Best Matches: "Me versus Spike Cantillo in Maywood, California in 1993, as a wrestler. As a manager was managing Malcolm Monroe in Akron, Ohio, versus Larry Winters in 1982 or so."

Favorite Move: "Favorite moves included a Figure Four and a Spinning Neck Breaker utilized in the 1930s by old time guys. I usually didn't use many holds though and cheated to win, whenever I did win. I usually lost as a wrestler. I think I was a sucky wrestler, but wonderful manager."

Titles Held: "Any belts I held were a fluke thing. The only serious title I held was the Brass Knuckles title for the AIWA in California from 1993-1996. It was much like a hardcore title would be today."

In a world known for colorful characters, here is one of the most colorful (or would that be TWO of the most colorful). Starting out as "Mad Dog" Marcial Bovee - a gay psychopath in a tacky pink suit, he caused quite a ruckus wherever he went. Over time, his personality started to change into a crazed . . . and straight manager/wrestler, with delusions of having magic powers, known as the Time Traveler. He was showing the wrestling world a split personality long before Cactus Jack. In the late 1990s, he slipped back into the personality of Marcial Bovee briefly at the Skip DeJordy promotion, then went back to being the Time Traveler and has stayed that way.

Although he has been both a wrestler and a manager, it is his role as manager that he sees as his calling. He is the first to say that wrestling was not his strong suit and that he usually only wrestled when necessary.

As a manager, however, he led some of the "who's who" in our sport. Wrestlers he has managed include "Superstar" Billy Graham, Dr. Jerry Graham, The Lumberjacks, Eddie Sullivan, Hans Mueller, Sergeant Shultz, "Thrillseeker" Terry Zeller, The Soviet, Malcolm Monroe, "Maniac" Mike Gordon, "Maniac" Mark Mustang, Tim Patterson, The Beast, Steve Salton, Mike Dupree, Joe Cagle & Rocky Sorter, Joey Rossi, Zoltan the Great, Galgatha, Bestia 666, Enigma, The Black Mamba, Larry Ludden, John Ringer, Durty the Clown, Lones Oaks, Michael Cruz, The Prisoner, Red Star and several more in various parts of the USA. He also did an early co-manager thing with Christopher Henderson (later known as Christopher Love and Bert Pretiss) when in Arizona.

These days, he is still managing (as the Time Traveler) in the Ohio/West Virginia/Michigan area, having retired in 1999 and returned to active managing in 2003.

When not involved in wrestling, he does an occasional stint as a substitute school teacher. He has also written numerous books, many of which will be coming out in the next year or so. His hobbies include fishing, traveling with his wife, listening to Spanish Flamenco music, film sound tracks and rock. He has also started a DVD collection.

The Time TravelerWhen asked about the current cable TV wrestling scene, he said "I do not watch wrestling on cable TV as I cannot stomach it and do not care what they do."
