Treo GPRS Upgrade

Posted March 3, 2004

What is the Treo GPRS Upgrade?
The Treo GPRS Upgrade lets your Treo communicator take advantage of GPRS on mobile networks. Experience fast, persistent connections to the Internet for email, with better control over your data costs.

What does it do?
The Treo GPRS Upgrade software enables GPRS on your Treo's radio, and configures your device with settings from your mobile service provider. First, the Treo GPRS Upgrade enables GPRS on your device. When you sign up for a GPRS data plan and install the upgrade, you get:

  • Adds to your Treo 180 GPRS (GPRS class 2B data services - 8-12Kbps Send - 16-24Kbps Receive).
  • Persistent Internet connection for instant access to web and email - without having to dial up.
  • Faster connection speeds than with a regular dial-up connection.
  • More control over incoming phone calls - you can answer phone calls even while you're checking your email. Your data call will reconnect as soon as you're off the phone.
  • Even if you decide that a GPRS data plan isn't right for you, remember that there are other benefits included in the Treo GPRS Upgrade.

   Treo 300, 270, 180, VisorPhone
Blazer web browser discontinued: The proxy servers for Blazer 1.x and 2.x have ceased operations. Blazer is no longer available for web browsing on these devices and others.

To install the Treo GPRS Upgrade, you must have everything in the list below.

  • Check to see if your device already has GPRS on it (here's now).
  • Treo 180, 180g, or 270 on GSM network
  • Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 or XP or Macintosh OS 8.5 to 9.x or OS X
  • HotSync Manager 3.1.2H (Windows) or HotSync Manager 2.6.x (Macintosh). This is part of the Palm Desktop installation. Please make sure you have installed the latest version of this software before you run the Treo GPRS Upgrade. Get the latest Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager.
  • Treo battery fully charged.
  • At least 6.7 MB (6,860 KB) free memory on your Treo (how to tell how much free memory you have).
  • Subscribed to (and activated) GPRS services as part of your mobile service account.
  • (Microsoft Outlook users only): PocketMirror version 3.1.2 or later installed (get the latest version now). The installation CD for Treo 180 and 180g does not include the latest PocketMirror version, so you may need to download the free upgrade. The installation CD for Treo 270 includes PocketMirror version 3.1.2.
  • Must synchronize with your current user name. You may have several Treo/Visor user names stored on your desktop from experimentation or previous devices. Make sure you synchronize with the user name currently on your Treo, or you will appear to lose data.

Once you have satisfied these requirements, please select your carrier from the list below to continue with the download.

First, make sure your mobile service provider has approved the Treo GRPS Upgrade (you won't be able to use the upgrade if it's not approved on your network).
