Stimulating Learning Environment
VAMK initiated its first academic year on August 1, 1996. Vamk is located on the western coast of Finland in the middle of Vaasa City.
VAMK prides itself on modern and well-equipped facilities.Technobothnia, the technology research centre, provides the engineering students with an excellent platform to participate in projects introducing the latest technology. Numerous local and international companies and organisations offer the Business Economics and Tourism students an authentic training environment. Practical training in the region's bilingual organisations within Health Care and Social Services as well as in the school's modern premises prepare the students for working life.
Vaasa as a city providing higher education, as a locomotive of the high technology export industry and as a centre of tourism offers an active and international environment for the staff and students of VAMK. The units keeping abreast of the times, versatile selection of degree programs, excellent international contacts and the relatively good employment situation and good possibilities for practical training both in industrial sector and in services together with the city's services, create a strong studying environment covering the whole town.
It has been calculated that the total amount of students in higher education in Vaasa is approximately 10.000. It can be said that every fifth person you meet in the city area is a degree student, which also shows in the selection of services and hobbies provided by Vaasa.
