Would you buy "Nanny" star Fran Drescher in "Camelot"?
She won't be playing Guenevere. Nope, she'll play sorceress Morgan le Fey. Is that an easier sell?
Guenevere will be portrayed by Marin Mazzie, one of the best singers in New York theater. King Arthur will be performed by Gabriel Byrne of HBO's "In Treatment." Nathan Gunn, a Metropolitan Opera baritone, is Lancelot. And Christopher Lloyd will be Pellinore.
"Camelot" is often associated with the John F. Kennedy administration. But theater buffs prize it for the glorious Lerner & Loewe score, which includes "If Ever I Would Leave You," and for the performances of Richard Burton as Arthur, Julie Andrews as Guenevere and Robert Goulet as Lancelot.
To see this new version, you don't have to go to New York. PBS' "Live From Lincoln Center" will present the musical live on May 8. But in Orlando, WMFE-Channel 24 is delaying the broadcast to 2 p.m. May 11.
Maybe here they should call it "LATE From Lincoln Center."
