Switzerland is a famous tourist attraction known for its majestic ski slopes. But with the influx of tourists comes an instant problem: littered garbage. Iranian by birth, Swiss by heart and soul, Miss Earth Switzerland Nasanin Nuri offers some solutions and used her beauty aptly to amplify her message.

I am a person full of zest for life, admire things that are beautiful.

I am also determined and I live my life to fulfill my dreams.
What is the most urgent environmental problem in your country right now and what do you think is the solution?
I live in a beautiful country with fantastic landscapes, high mountains and beautiful lakes. Each year, so many tourists come to Switzerland for hiking and skiing but some irresponsible ones leave lots of garbage. Many forests in the mountain slopes where cleared to give way for ski lifts. Thus, the danger of avalanches increased which in turn cost human and animal lives.
The solution I think is to create an awareness program for hikers and skiers so that they will stop scattering their garbage. I also think that we should stop building more ski resorts since there are enough ski lanes in Switzerland already. I also believe that a decree that extends the ski season so that skiers can ski longer and workers at ski resorts could earn more can harm nature. I believe that such extension shouldn’t be that much.
What environmental activities are you currently engaged in?
During my reign, I began to engage in 2 projects which are very important to me. But these projects focus more on human beings than the environment. I volunteered for a child hospital in Zurich while my other project is promoting women’s rights. I worked with a national body that helps the women who are victims of violence. I also helped in a benefit gala for a campaign against the harsh penalties and execution of underage offenders. I concentrate on these projects and I spend much time on them. I unfortunately do not have an environmental project as of the moment but as Miss Earth Switzerland I use my title to create environmental awareness. I also set a good example like using a public transport, by segregating my household wastes and recycle some of them, using energy-saving lights and conserving the wash water that we use everyday. Our nature fascinates me. I love spending time in our wonderful forests as well as in our lakes. As Miss Earth Switzerland, I will do my best to help protect the Earth and would share this value to my fellow men.
Does it take a beautiful woman to remind all of us the need to preserve the resources of Mother Earth?
Yes, I think it needs a beautiful woman that can bridge the world of glamour and the humanitarian and environmental projects. The attention that I gained as Miss Earth Switzerland can be used to give awareness about the poverty in the world, the bad living conditions in some places and the human rights that are constantly oppressed in many countries. My beauty can be used to open the eyes of the people, to lead and motivate them so that they will join my projects and together we can make a change.
What do you hope to see in Manila, Guam and Bali - hosts to Miss Earth 2008?
I would like to marvel the sights, to learn about other people and their culture. This time it will be a good experience, one that could enrich my life. I look forward for such experience.
