Sister cities

The City of Melbourne’s international relationships are integral to the perception of Melbourne as a contemporary centre for business, education and cultural exchanges.

The City of Melbourne has developed six sister city relationships:

• Osaka, Japan (1978)
• Tianjin, China (1980)
• Thessaloniki, Greece (1984)
• Boston, United States (1985)
• St Petersburg, Russia (1989)
• Milan, Italy (2004)

As well as fostering international understanding and goodwill between cities, we also aim to create opportunities for our residents and businesses through our international relationships.
