City council

City council is the city’s main decision-making body. It is composed of the mayor and 64 members from all of the city’s boroughs. The city has jurisdiction over many areas, including:

  • public safety
  • governmental agreements
  • building renovation subsidy programs
  • the environment
  • the urban development plan
  • the three-year capital works program

As well, city council guides, standardizes and approves decisions that are made by borough councils.

The agenda contains, at the beginning of the meeting, a public question period. Refer to the By-law concerning rules of procedure for council meetings and internal rules for council management (06-051).

The Direction du greffe(city clerk’s office) produces city council agendas and minutes.
