Our first concert of the year saw us leave behind a wet England by travelling to Athens, the mother of Western civilisation. And this time we actually managed to include a rest day on our itinerary which we used wisely by visiting the Acropolis.
The only downside to this being that the Acropolis is currently undergoing renovation work which involves the erection of hundreds of scaffolding poles. Not in itself a bad thing but the wind blowing over the tubes was making the most wonderfully cacophanous sounds which resembled nothing so much as the an eerie choir of pan pipes. It was like listening to the ghosts of thousands of shepherds from times past.
Unfortunately though, due to having no suitable recording devices on our persons, we were totally unable to capture this wonderful sound - despite our best efforts with mobile phone and camera video facilities.
The gig itself was also not without incident as Absent Without Leave ended their set by staging an impromptu show of disgust at the local music scene which took the form of smashing up a guitar. Very Rock & Roll for a Section 25 show. Unfortunately though we were ignorant both of the local politics and of the Greek language itself (how typically English) so can't comment further.
