Bethlehem Tertiary Institute

Part of the Bethlehem Campus, BTI offers professional preparation in teaching and counselling with the three-year Bachelor of Education (Teaching) degree preparing Primary and Early Childhood teachers, an upgrade programme for Primary and Early Childhood teachers who have a diploma of teaching and want to finish their degree, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) to retrain primary teachers for Early Childhood teaching (also available by flexi around NZ) and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) to train degree graduates for secondary school teaching. BTI also has programmes in counselling and family studies all available by flexi from anywhere in NZ. The Bachelor of Counselling is a three-year degree and the Diploma of Counselling a three-year part-time diploma preparing professional counsellors; the one-year Diploma of Family Studies trains volunteers and community workers and the Graduate Diploma of Family Studies is a one-year full-time programme for professionals to specialise in an area of people-helping and undertake research into their practice. The specialist Graduate Certificates of Counselling enable already qualified counsellors to expand their professional knowledge and skills in one area: therapeutic group facilitation; child and adolescent counselling; Narrative Therapy; couple and family counselling; counselling focussed on illness, disability and impairment; and in supervision. These programmes can be studied as a whole or some papers can be taken as tasters or one-off enrolments.
