AC Peregrine Red (ND2937-3) - Tubers are "oval; smooth red skin; shallow eyes, evenly distributed; eyebrows not prominent; cream coloured flesh.... High yielding variety with medium number of tubers per plant. Medium specific gravity. Medium dormancy period. Good storability." See also: CFIA; True North; Lynch, et alia, Am. J. AC Red Island - Tubers are "round to oval; bright red skin; shallow eyes, predominantly apical; creamy white flesh.... High yielding variety of medium size tubers. Tubers have very good red colour which is retained during storage. High specific gravity."

Adirondack Red - "oblong to long, slightly flattened, purplish-red-skinned tubers with shallow eyes and pink to red flesh. Excellent flavor. Good for boiling, mashing, pan frying, salads and microwaving. Color may leach out during boiling but not with other cooking methods." See also: Tucker Farms.

Alaska Red - "medium yield of oval, red tubers; medium maturity, good for tablestock, low tuber solids." Tubers have red skin and white flesh. See also: Dearborn: Am. Potato J. 54:365-369 (1977).

All Red (Cranberry Red) - "Large, round tubers with smooth cranberry-red skin and light-rose flesh even when cooked boiled or roasted." See also: Milkranch Seeds.

Amorosa - Large, red, long-oval tubers with pale yellow flesh.

Asterix - Tubers are "oblong; flaky red skin; shallow eyes, predominantly apical, slightly prominent eyebrows; light yellow flesh.... High to very high yielding variety. Tubers are uniform in shape and have a rather good resistance to internal bruising and hollow heart. Good storability. High to very high dry matter content." Axona - Red-skinned, cream-fleshed, oval tubers; moderately high specific gravity.

Bartina - Large red-skinned tubers with yellow flesh.

Batoche - Tubers are "round-oblong, moderately large, uniform; smooth bright red skin; medium-deep eyes darker red than the skin; creamy white flesh.... High yielding; attractive appearance. Tuber size varies with moisture availability. Spacing plants 24 cm apart will help prevent oversizing when tubers are grown under irrigation. High total solids."

Bildstar - "round, red, smooth to medium smooth skin; yellow flesh; shallow eyes to rather shallow eyes." See also: HZPC.

Blossom - "Fingerling tubers with magenta-red skin and pink, smooth-textured, waxy flesh. Good storage. Medium resistance to scab, leaf hoppers and late blight."

Brise du Nord - Tubers are "round to oval; smooth red skin; shallow to moderately shallow eyes, well distributed; eyebrows very slightly prominent; white flesh.... High yielding variety; large tubers of attractive appearance. Medium dry matter content. Medium dormancy period." Primary use: boiling.

Brora - "Very tall, semi erect, intense local colour on stems. Numerous, small, red violet flowers, oval tubers, smooth, red skin, cream flesh." Early maincrop variety for the crisping market.

Brownell - An Australian variety, "Brownell is a medium to late maturing cultivar with round, brownish-pink tubers, medium to deep eyes, and white flesh. The tubers are excellent for boiling, but baking quality is somewhat inferior."

Calred - Tubers are "round; red skin; eyes are shallow and evenly distributed; eyebrows not prominent; cream colored flesh.... High yield of small tubers per plant. Medium dormancy period (6 month). Medium specific gravity." Primary use: boiling. See also: MV Produce; San Luis Hills Farms.

Caribe - Tubers are "oblong, thick, narrowing at the bud end; smooth red-purple skin or heavily stippled red-purple on a tan background; numerous medium-deep eyes the same colour as the skin or deep indigo; creamy white flesh. High yielding variety; attractive appearance; widely adapted; easily topkilled; grades well with few culls; stores well. High total solids." Primary uses: Boiling and chipping.

Celine - "Oval-long tubers, shallow eyes, skin red, light yellow flesh." General purpose, early harvest variety.

Cherie - Tubers are "Long oval, shallow eyes, skin red, smooth, pale yellow flesh."

Cherry Red - Tubers are "oval; smooth red skin; shallow eyes, moderately numerous and evenly distributed; non prominent eyebrows; white flesh. Medium to high yielding variety; slightly sensitive to metribuzin; moderately resistant to drought. Tubers are moderately sensitive to growth cracks, second growth and black spot bruise. Chieftain - "Tubers are oblong to round, medium thick with a smooth, medium red skin and white flesh.... attractive and well suited for the table stock market. Processing quality for chips and french fries is not acceptable." "Highly resistant to scab and resistant to net necrosis, stem-end browning and late blight.... eveloped in 1966 by USDA and Iowa. Colorado - Tubers are "Elongated oblong, shallow eyes, skin red, medium to rough, yellow flesh." Primary use: Fresh market.

Colorado Rose - "Main-season, all-purpose potato. Medium-sized plants produce large, oval, smooth, rose-red-skinned tubers with white flesh." See also: Moose Tubers.

Coralie - Tubers are " Elongated oblong, slightly deep eyes, skin red, light yellow flesh." Primary use: Fresh market.

Doline - Tubers are "Elongated oblong, shallow eyes, skin red, smooth, pale yellow flesh."

Durango Red - "This selection is medium yielding medium maturing with round tubers with red skin and white flesh. Plants are medium size and upright. It’s useful in the fresh market and the specific gravity is medium (1.076). The skin color is deep red and holds well in storage. Good uniform tuber size." Early Rose - Tubers are "Flattened oval, rather regular, shallow to half-sunken eyes, distributed over the whole surface of the tuber, pale pink skin, white flesh, sometimes rosy vascular ring."

Fanchette - Tubers are "Elongated, shallow to moderately deep eyes, skin red, smooth to medium, dark yellow flesh." Primary use: Fresh market.

Franceline - Tubers are "Long oval to long, regular, shallow eyes, red skin, yellow flesh.... Good culinary quality variety, maturing earlier than Roseval, and having a clearer red tuber colour." Primary use: Fresh market.

French Fingerling - "Mid- to late-season. Large, fingerling tubers with smooth, dark rose-red skin and waxy, yellow flesh lightly splashed with pink. Good storage. High resistance to scab and shows some resistance to leaf hopper. Tall, spreading plant." "Rather dry and flourlike, this outstanding potato variety offers an exceptional quality and delicious nutty flavor all its own. Tenderly wrapped in a pinkish-red skin, the smooth, moist yellow flesh has streaks of pink. Fingerlings measuring between two and four inches are the most popular." Garnet Chile - "Late -season. Round tubers with light-red skin and moist, firm, white flesh. Good storage. Good resistance to scab. Large, tall plants.... perhaps the most important variety in North American potato growing. It is an 1853 seedling of the Rough Purple Chile procured by The Rev. Chauncey Goodrich from South America in 1851 in a attempt to stave off the then on-going problem of potato degeneration. Off spring of the Garnet Chili subsequently produced a vast percentage of the most successful potato varieties of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries." Also known as Garnet Chili. Harlequin - Particolored-red skin, light-yellow flesh, very long tubers; early maincrop salad potato.

Huckleberry - "Mid-season. Oblong tubers with beet-red skin and moist, firm, smooth-textured, lighter-red flesh marbled with white. Good storage. Medium resistance to scab." See also: Milkranch.

Ida Rose - "Mid-season. Oblong tubers with bright-red skin that retains color during storage and moist, firm, white flesh. Good storage. Moderate resistance to scab, growth crack, hollow heart, verticillium and early blight. Medium-tall plants." A "medium-maturing, fresh market red potato released in 1999 by USDA at Aberdeen, ID. It is considered excellent for baking, microwaving and boiling and ranks high in taste tests. It is a high yielding variety with few internal defects. The skin can russet slightly in light soils." Inca Dawn - Particolored-red skin, deep-yellow flesh, long-oval tubers; late maincrop salad potato.

Inca Sun - "Many, very long, parti-coloured red tubers with medium depth eyes and deep yellow flesh." Late maincrop specialty potato.

INIAP Fripapa 99 - Tubers are red-skinned and cream-fleshed, with moderate susceptibility to PVY. INIAP: Instituto Nacional Autónomo de Investigaciones Agropecuarias.

Irene - Tubers are "round, red, rough skin; pale yellow flesh; rather shallow eyes." Primary use: Fresh market.

Kerr's Pink - "Mid-season Irish heirloom. Oval-flat tubers with pink skin and floury, white flesh. Short storage. Good resistance to scab." Thompson & Morgan: "Variety from 1917 [or 1907, according to Moose Tubers] making a welcome comeback in popularity. Tall, robust foliage. Good crop of round, pink skinned, deep eyed tubers with floury pure white flesh of good flavour." Kondor - Tubers are "long-oval, red, smooth to medium smooth skin; pale yellow flesh; moderately deep eyes." Primary use: Fresh market. See also: Pomme de Terre.

Kufri Lalima - Red-skinned, yellow-fleshed, round tubers. Good storage quality.

Kufri Sind-huri - Large tubers with red skin and yellow, waxy-textured flesh. Good keepers.

Kuroda - Tubers are "oval, red, medium rough skin; fairly yellow flesh; rather shallow eyes." Primary use: Fresh market.

La Rouge - "Mid-season. Round tubers with bright-red skin, medium-deep eyes and moist, firm flesh. Good storage. High resistance to scab. Medium-sized spreading plants." Also known as: LaRouge. See also: PAA; Am Potato J 40:130-132 (1963).

La Veine Rose (La Belle Rose) - "long-oval in shape with a light pink skin. It's distinctive feature is the rose marbling under the skin around the eyes" (Potato Gene Resources Newsletter, 2001).

Lady Balfour - "Oval tubers, medium eyes, skin parti-coloured red, flesh white." Late maincrop, general purpose potato; favored in Britain by organic agriculturalists. Seed potato intermittently available from Thompson-Morgan and The Potato Shop (both UK).

Lady Rosetta - Tubers are " round; flaky red skin; shallow eyes, moderately numerous and evenly distributed; moderately prominent eyebrows; cream to light yellow flesh.... High yielding variety of attractive appearance, very uniform in size; rather susceptible to internal bruising. Short dormancy period; very high dry matter." Lynx - Pale-skinned tubers mottled with red, cream-fleshed, long oval shape, early maincrop intended for the French fry processing market.

Magic Red - Tubers are "short oblong, eyes on surface, skin red, white flesh." French fresh-market variety.

Mazama - "Mazama tubers are smooth-skinned and shallow eyed. Mazama's bright red color does not fade in storage. Mazama is less susceptible to potato virus Y than Dark Red Norland or Red LaSoda.... Mazama produces lower total yields than Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda, but similar marketable yields with a high percentage of small, high-value tubers and significantly fewer culls." Mimi - Light-red skinned, yellow-fleshed, round tubers, early harvest salad potato.

Modoc - "an early maturing, round to oval, redskinned
clone suitable for fresh market use.... produces total yields slightly lower than those of Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda but with a more desirable size profile, with higher yields of small, high-value tubers, and fewer culls." Mozart - Tubers are "oval, very uniform shaped tubers with distinct yellow eyes and a attractive sunrise red skin.Yellow flesh colour. Allow enough time between top kill and harvest to promote skin set. Mozart has a long dormancy and stores well."

NorDonna - "First selected in 1982 from a cross between North Dakota advanced selections ND206-1R x ND821-6R. The cultivars Bison, Norchief and Chieftain are in its ancestry. It was tested as ND1871-3R and was released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station on April 28, 1995.... Dark red tubers are oval to round-oblong with shallow and well distributed eyes; tuber flesh is white." See also: Am. Norland - Tubers are "medium oblong, slightly flattened, medium thick; smooth red skin; shallow eyes; white flesh.... High yielding variety, adapts well to different soils. Sensitive to drought, susceptible to skinning and bruising if harvested before maturity; washes well at maturity. Stores well even though the dormancy period is short. Seldom produces tubers that are irregular in shape, knobby or growth cracked. Tubers are not subject to internal defects like hollow heart, internal necrosis and vascular discoloration. Low total solids.... Norland Dark Red, Red Norland and New Red Norland are selected clones with a darker red color." Primary uses: boiling, French frying, fresh chipping. Osprey - "Oval-round, parti-coloured red tubers with medium depth eyes and cream flesh." General-purpose early harvest potato.

Pamela - Tubers are "Long oval, not very deep eyes, red skin, pale yellow flesh."

Paramount - Red-skinned, white-fleshed, round-oval tubers; early maincrop, general-purpose potato.

Pink Eye - "Pink Eye potatoes are an early maturing type grown mainly in the south of [Tasmania]. The tubers are creamy-white, blotched with purple and tend to be round with a depression in the stolen end. The eyes are deep and pink, whilst the flesh is yellow with a tendency to be waxy. They are mainly for baking and for boiling as “new’ potatoes. The cultivar is susceptible to powdery scab."

Pink Pearl - Tubers are "oval, smooth, medium size; pink skin; shallow eyes, predominantly apical; white flesh.... High yielding variety; high tuber set; good storability; medium specific gravity. Wide spacing (up to 46 cm) has increased marketable yields; tubers separate readily from stolons." Primary uses: boiling and baking.

Raja - Tubers are "oval, red, medium rough skin; fairly yellow flesh; shallow eyes to rather shallow eyes."

Red Cloud - "Late-season. Round tubers with red skin and medium-dry, snow-white flesh. Excellent storage. High resistance to scab, early blight, hollow heart, heat stress and drought. Red Gold - Tubers are "round to oval; smooth to slightly flaky, pinkish red skin; medium deep eyes, uniformly distributed, brighter pink-red than skin; bright yellow flesh.... Red La Soda - Tubers are "elliptical to slightly oblong; bright deep red skin; medium-deep, wide eyes; white flesh.... High yielding variety of attractive appearance. Resistant to tipburn, and to wind, heat and drought damage; some resistance to mechanical bruising. Slightly susceptible to hollow heart and growth cracks. Wide adaptation, grows well in both southern and northern areas. Medium specific gravity; good storability with medium dormancy." Primary uses: boiling, baking, chipping, French frying. Red Pearl - "Early-season bred specifically to produce many small tubers (marble-sized up to 2 inches). Red Pontiac - Tubers are "oblong to round; smooth, sometimes netted, red skin; medium deep eyes; white flesh.... High yielding variety of attractive appearance, widely adapted (especially to muck soils). Some drought resistance, bruises easily; susceptible to air cracking at harvest. Low total solids. Good storability, medium dormancy." "Pontiac was bred from a cross between Triumph and Katahdin and was originally released in the USA in 1938 and to Australia in 1940. Red Pontiac, a selection with a brighter skin colour, was released in the USA in 1949. Certified seed of Red Pontiac was released in 1975" (Australia). Red Ruby - "Red Ruby is a mid-season red variety for the fresh market. It yields well and has excellent color.... Tubers are round to blocky and dark red. The skin is smooth but sometimes slightly netted.... Red Ruby was selected from the progeny of a cross between Bison x MN11.76-1. It was tested as MN13035 and released by the University of Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station and Department of Horticultural Science in 1994." See also: Cornell.

Red Scarlett - Tubers are "oval, red, medium rough skin; pale yellow flesh; shallow eyes."

Red Thumb - "Late-season. Fingerling tubers with smooth, red skin and waxy, red flesh. Good storage. Medium resistance to scab. Small- to medium-sized plants." See also: Milkranch.

Reddale - "Mid-season. Round, smooth tubers with bright-red skin and moist, white flesh. Good storage. Medium to large plants. High resistance to scab." See also: Abundant Life Seeds; Moose Tubers.

Redsen - Tubers are "round to oblong; thin, smooth bright red skin; shallow eyes; slightly curved eyebrows; white flesh.... Medium to high yielding variety; very bright red tubers that hold their color in storage. Tubers are susceptible to bruising, therefore special care should be taken at harvest and handling into storage. Variety relatively free of hollow heart and other internal defects. High dry matter content. Short dormancy period." "Attractive bright red smooth thin skin retains its color well. Moist flesh is great braised with olive oil, chicken broth and a little salt. Romano - Tubers are "round to oval, red, smooth skin; yellowish-white flesh; moderately deep eyes." Primary use: Fresh market.

Rosa - Tubers are "Claviform, regular, shallow eyes, red skin, yellow flesh.... Variety with very good keeping quality which, due to its culinary qualities, lends itself to certain dishes: salads, ragout, fish and potatoes." Primary use: Fresh market.

Rosabelle - Tubers are "Oval with Long oval, very regular, shallow eyes, red skin, yellow flesh.... Variety of excellent presentation having tubers with red skin, of very regular shape and with very shallow eyes." Primary use: Fresh market.

Rosanna - Tubers are "Long oval, not very deep eyes, red skin, pale yellow flesh."

Rose Finn Apple - "Mid- to late-season. Fingerling tubers with beige, rose-blushed skin and waxy, bright-yellow flesh. Good storage. High resistance to scab. Medium-sized, upright plants." See also: Milkranch; Moose Tubers.

Rose Gold - "Mid-season. Medium-sized, round, smooth tubers with rose-red skin and moist, firm, golden-yellow flesh. Good storage. Good resistance to scab." Roselys - Tubers are "round to oval; smooth pink skin; shallow to medium-deep eyes, intermediate in number, evenly distributed; slightly prominent eyebrows; white flesh.... High yielding variety; large tubers; short dormancy period; medium specific gravity." Primary uses: boiling and French frying.

Roseval - Tubers are "Claviform, very regular, very shallow eyes, red skin, yellow flesh.... Vigorous variety giving numerous tubers of medium size, having an excellent presentation due to their regularity and colour. The quite yellow flesh is however sometimes veined with pink." Primary use: Fresh market (avoid mashing as gluey).

Rosine - Tubers are "Long oval, very regular, very shallow eyes, red skin, pale yellow flesh.... Variety giving tubers of good keeping quality and excellent presentation due to their shape, regularity and skin colour." Primary use: Fresh market.

Rubis - Tubers are "Long oval, regular, very shallow eyes, red skin, pale yellow flesh.... Medium-early variety, giving large tubers with red skin and of regular shape." Primary use: Fresh market.

Ruby Crescent - "Main-season, fingerling type. Plants produce rosy-skinned tubers with moderately dry, yellow flesh best baked or boiled. Also known as 'Ruby Crescent Fingerling'."

Sangre - Tubers are "oval to oblong; smooth deep red skin; shallow eyes, evenly distributed; white flesh.... High yielding variety. Medium to long dormancy period. Medium specific gravity. Good storability, good retention of red skin color.... Resistant to second growth; rarely exhibits hollow heart, internal discoloration or blackspot. Adapted to irrigated areas of the west." Sarpo Mira - "Tall, erect stems, entire colour. Large open  leaf.  Medium red violet flowers, large white tips.  Long oval tubers, red skin, yellow eyes" with white flesh. Late maincrop, general purpose potato developed in Hungary. See also: Thompson-Morgan (UK).

Sebastian - "Long-oval tubers, parti coloured red skin, cream flesh." General-purpose, early maincrop potato.

Sunrise - Tubers are "round to oblong, moderatly smooth; netted buff skin; medium deep eyes, evenly distributed; white flesh.... High yielding variety; tubers bulk rapidly; susceptible to pressure bruising; good storability; high specific gravity." Skin is splotched with red. Primary use: Early fresh market and chipping. Sunset - Red-skinned, yellow-fleshed, oval-long tubers; late maincrop, general-purpose potato.

Stemster - Tubers are "Long oval, moderately sunken eyes, pink and smooth skin, pale yellow flesh."

Symfonia - Tubers are "oval to oblong; smooth red skin; shallow eyes, evenly distributed; eyebrows slightly prominent; light yellow flesh.... Winema - " an early maturing, red-skinned cultivar for fresh market use.... tubers are smooth-skinned with shallow eyes. Winema's bright red color does not fade appreciably in storage. Winema is susceptible to potato virus Y (PVY). Foliar symptoms of PVY are difficult to detect visually.... Winema has produced lower total yields than Dark Red Norland and Red LaSoda at most locations, but similar or higher marketable yields and significantly fewer culls."
