McKay Fires Clyde to Reserve Trophy

Mon, 5th May 2008 4:50pm

Captain for the day Juan Carrio lifted the Reserve League Cup trophy after a fine 4-1 win over Livingston at Almondvale this afternoon.

The first action of the match came at Clyde's goal when Peter Cherrie was forced into a good save, with the rebound also being blocked. Roddy MacLennan came within inches of opening the scoring on 24 minutes when his volley hit the underside of the bar and bounced down on the line.

Just before half-time though, Dave McKay did get the ball in the net when he pounced on a long pass by Carrio to finish.

Livi missed a great chance to level just after break and they were made to pay 10 minutes later when McKay scored his second, latching onto another ball over the top but this time finishing at the second attempt.

On 58 minutes McKay made it a hat-trick, when he converted a penalty that was awarded for a foul on MacLennan.

The Lions dragged themselves back into the match after a mistake by Peter Cherrie and could have scored again minutes later when a shot bounced away after hitting the bar.

The win was secured, however, when the impressive McKay got his fourth goal of the day, beating the 'keeper after being played in by Sean McKenna.

Cherrie pulled off one more good save before the end of play and, unfortunately, Calum McGregor was harshly shown a late red card for two bookings.

Congratulations go to the team on the day for a very professional performance and to everyone else who has contributed to an excellent showing in the competition this season.
