Hellgate: London Closing in January

Is anyone surprised? After Flagship went down, the IP was held in limbo, with no hope of any new content being created or offered, no hope of patches, nadda. Why would people continue to play this game with that and the already existing stigma?

This game was the worst excuse for an MMO ever. A disgrace to the genre as a whole and just a terrible scheme to try and make as much money as Blizzard did with WoW. This was not an unofficial Diablo 3, nor a WoW killer. I'm glad this game is finally dead.

Yeah, it wasn't much of an MMO, but it never should have been labeled as such. It was simply a multiplayer game where everything was instanced.
That bit of clarification out of the way, it was actually quite fun. The story, background, and a fair bit of the art was new and intriguing.
Like most of the online games these days it was released too early. Like a whole bunch of them, it didn't have enough resources to survive.
What it did have for those of us who still play was the same kind of down-and-out exclusivity as a dive bar. The drinks are watered down, the same people show up every week, and not much changes. But its comfortable, the world is interesting (at least its not another blasted fantasy MMO) and sometimes, when things line up just right, something really cool happens.

Scary. I recall when everyone was drooling over this game's previews. Then it sort of disappeared from the picture and now...

I just wish it had been executed better. The single player version was plagued by bugs, and an entire patch level behind the online version even before FS closed their doors. But when it worked, I really did enjoy playing it. Just for the fact that it was different. Too bad they won't release it into the oss community, I'd love to see what people could do with it.

And I have to agree with Seth, it's just like that corner bar where everyone knows your name....
