Standardized Test Preparation
[test prep]
Which Tests to Take? - The ACT or the SAT? PSAT or the PLAN? The PLAN - What's that? Introduce yourself to the most "important" tests of your high school career.

Suggested Timetable - Strategies for when you might want to consider taking the tests and a general outline of what you can do during your few years in high school to maximize your score.
Part One Freshman year to the summer after sophomore year.
Part Two Summer after sophomore year to graduation of high school.

Standardized Test Dates - When the tests will be offered. Success on test day requires plenty of time to register and prepare - and may take more than one try. Plan ahead.

MATS and EXPLORE - Options to take standardized tests as an elementary or middle school student. Yippee!

SAT Advice - General and specific advice to topple this juggernaut. How to write the essay, how to proceed with critical reading, how to solve math problems. All with your eyes closed and one hand tied behind your back.

ACT Advice - Coming soon, but click the link to learn about the SAT vs. the ACT.

SAT Subject Tests Advice - Coming soon. For now, remember to take your tests soon after you complete coursework in the material. Find out which SAT subject tests to take by talking to colleges.

PSAT Advice - Coming soon, but click the link to learn about the PSAT vs. the PLAN.

AP Advice - An introduction to the AP program is available in the Academics tab.

Reading List - Reading literature is a long-term preparation technique for standardized test success. If you have the time, definitely read. If you don't know what to read, here are my thoughts. If you don't like to read, here are my thoughts. And if you don't read this, well, you'll never know my thoughts.

Test Prep Companies - A brief guide on my thoughts for the test prep corporations out there. None of them are terrible. None of them are great either. Effective studying will not rely solely on one book or crash course.
