New Delhi, October 30: A serving lieutenant colonel has come under the scanner for his alleged role in last month's Malegaon blasts and the army has allowed police to question him.

With media speculating on the role of the officer in the blasts during Ramzan that killed six Muslims, the army in a press release today announced "full cooperation" to the police and facilitate his questioning.

The army decision comes on a request from the Anti- Terrorism Squad of the Maharashtra Police which has already arrested Ramesh Upadhaya, a retired army major from Pune in connection with the blast.

Interestingly, earlier in the day, Deputy Army Chief Lt Gen S P S Dhillon told reporters that the army headquarters had not received any official communication on the issue and promised to "come clean" by the evening.

"While no formal application has been received from the police authorities, the Army HQ has decided to extend full cooperation and facilitate interaction of the officer with the investigating officials of the police," the army release said.

Accordingly the officer has been moved to Mumbai to facilitate interaction at a mutually convenient place, it said. The officer was posted at the Army Education Corps School in Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh.

The army said further action would be taken as necessitated based upon the outcome of interaction and clarification as planned.

"The Army headquarters will continue to provide all assistance to the investigating agency, as and when required by them," it said.

The release recalled that in the course of probe by police in the Malegaon blasts some inputs of possible linkages of a serving army officer with suspects have come to light.

Accordingly the police sought to interact with the officer concerned and seek clarifications from him so as to proceed with further investigations.

Hindu Terror by Thataghata on 01 Nov 2008

Notice that RSS never killed a British officer evernot even took part in freedom movement.British praised RSS right from its formation as an obedient organization, never creating any problemfor them. So it was doing the foot service of theBritish.RSS was formed by Chitpawan Brahmans who were worst casteists. They wanted to block Dalits from using public wells to draw water - a right they got due to Gandhi's intervention. This was the real reason behind Gandhi's murder by Godse - the loss of domination of Chitpawans.Hedgewar, Golwalkar, Godse all were Chitpawan Brahmans and original terrorists of India. Indian army has always stayed out of politics and it is RSS/BJP which has for the first time triedto vitiate army. It is a clear case similar to Nazis appropriating German army.

Congress should not defame our Military by Mrs Bhanumati on 31 Oct 2008

RR Patil should find some better job to appease Sonia Gandhi.Congress should stop taking political mileage by falsely targeting Hindus in this episode. If Sadhi was involved in act of terrorism she would not be such a great fool to use her own vehicle for bomb explosion. Let us not defame our Military at least as it will have far reaching implications and muslims would lose faith in army.Let us not be overconfident of Police which can be used by state government for targeting any community like Maharashtra is targeting North Indians using police. If anything happens police say it is not hate towards north Indians.

Bombs by Sameer on 30 Oct 2008

Everytime police arrests members of minority community, radical minded Hindus appreciate police actions as swift and coorect. Whereas this time, questions are raised for arresting Sadhvi! We Indians should condemn anti-nationals not Muslims alone for forging a bright India. Moreover India has a strong Judicicary and all my Hindu brethern dont subscribe to the stoneage ideals of RSS, which indirectly propogates the ultimate supremacy of Brahmin, using other castes as their ladder to climb up...

it is a surprise that my previous comments have not appeared here- perhaps raising some uncomfortable questions about the unworthy politicians is a sin !

Beginning of the end? by R Vijay on 30 Oct 2008

Since 1947 to 2008,barring less than a decade, all throughout congress has been ruling either on its own or with support of its secular allies. Why is it then that it has not been able to ensure a common code of conduct for all?Why is it then that the young generation is reluctant to join the defence forces and existing officers are allegedly showing traits hitherto never seen? Why does the government hesitate to act tough on criminals proved guilty even in the supreme court when the highest seat of democracy was attacked by terrorists and a couple of policemen sacrificed their lives to protect unworthy politicians inside? Is this the beginning of the end of our achievements of past several generations of freedom fighers?

Where Have We Gone Wrong? by SMSingru on 30 Oct 2008

Can one assume that the Malegaon investigations are not a purely political gimmick of Congress-NCP ,with the General Elections a few months away? If the assumption is correct, what the police claim to be true should make all of us sit up
