Gators blank UCF on Nelson 4-hitter

Stacey Nelson is just enough of a perfectionist that she will never be 100 percent happy, not even after pitching a four-hit shutout that lifted the Gators to a 3-0 over UCF in the winner’s bracket game Saturday afternoon of the Gainesville Regional of the NCAA Softball Tournament at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Nelson’s dominating performance puts Florida one game away from advancing to next weekend’s Super Regionals.

Softball: Walton wants validation

For all the good things that have happened, and there have been plenty of them in this softball season that began a little over three months ago, Tim Walton is still looking for validation. His Florida Gators are 62-2, the number one ranked team in the nation and the top seed in the NCAA Tournament. They won both the SEC regular season and tournament championships and they have a 35-game winning streak. Five more wins and they tie the all-time record for wins in a single season in NCAA history. Yet, until the Gators make the College World Series, Walton says they are just another pretty good program.

Walton’s Gators are living in the moment

This sounds so familiar. Three basketball seasons ago, Billy Donovan sold an improbable bunch of four sophomores and a junior on living in the moment, of never letting the past haunt them or the future overwhelm them.
