Snakes ~ Other Snakes ~ Keel Bellied Whip Snake

The keel-bellied whip snake is not related to the Ahaetulla family, though it has a slender body and a sharp head. It has an attractive grey colouration with intermittent bluish green dashes and black spots lining the dorsal area. Its head is reddish brown with chevron-like markings on top.

The ventrals are strongly keeled. It is an arboreal snake that occupies lowland to mid-level rainforests. They are active diurnal snakes suited to movement through jungle foliage and tress. In the wild, they take geckos as their primary prey. In Southeast Asia, they occur in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Borneo and the Philippines.
