The continuing explosion of local music paved the way for Heartbeats' most ambitious project so far, the album titled Avon Calling - The Bristol Compilation, the idea being to feature as many bands as possible on one LP and be able to say: "Hey!, listen, this what is happening over here", it's just as good as anything coming out of London or where-ever. Achieving success with record sales and airplay was still not enough to rid Bristol of its' Wurzel image - each time we played Heartbeat bands in London it was difficult for them to be taken seriously!

During summer '79 fifteen bands would make their way over to Crescent Studios neatly fitting in on "off days" from on-going sessions by the likes of Peter Gabriel, The Korgis & Kate Bush!
These were fascinating days, the Studio had never had so much diverse music to construct in such short time, and being at every session was certainly an education.

Avon Calling proved to be a great success, achieving
everything I had wanted for Bristol's music - great
reviews, fantastic national airplay, even on early
evening radio.
