Stephanie dunn                                        
HEAD VARSITY COACH

Stephanie Dunn is in her sixth year as Head Coach at SPX.  Dunn is currently the Associate Admissions Director for St. Pius X. Dunn earned a Bachelor degree in Journalism and Child Counseling from the University of Georgia in 1996. Dunn played basketball for 4 years for the Lady Bulldogs at the University of Georgia and participated in 1995 NCAA Final Four. Dunn was named 2004, 2006 & 2007 AAAA State Coach of the Ye
ar, 2003, 2004, 2006, & 2007 6AAAA Region Coach of the Year and 2004 & 2007 Dekalb County Coach of the Year. Dunn was also named Metro Atlanta Coach of the Year for the 2007 season.  Dunn has a husband, Keith, a daughter, Kara, and labrador retriever, Starr.  Email:  sdunn@spx.org

HEATHER KARVIS

ASSISTANT COACH

Heather Karvis is in her fourth year as the varsity team Assistant Coach.  Karvis is an English teacher at SPX.  Karvis is a former basketball standout at Parkview H.S. Karvis went on to play for four years at the collegiate level as she led Oglethorpe University.  Karvis' jersey was retired at Oglethorpe as she led the Stormy Petrals in every statistical category as an outstanding post player.  Karvis has a husband, Barrett and a daughter, Ava Rose.

Keiko Tate

JV COACH

Keiko Tate is a former standout for the Wildcats at The University of Kentucky. Tate began her high school at St. Pius X before moving to Louiville, KY.  Tate is in her second year as the JV coach. Tate focuses on an uptempo full court game.  Tate also lends her expertise to Varsity post players. 

Bridget McKay

FRESHMAN COACH

Bridget McKay took her game to the colliegate level.  Mckay now serves as the Freshman Coach.  McKay is in her 3rd year at SPX.  Mckay focuses on the development and fundamental of the freshman players in the program.  Mckay has a husband, Mike, and daughter, Jordan, and two sons, Ryan and Collin. 

 

STEVE THACKER

8TH GRADE COACH

Steve Thacker has been coaching girls' basketball for 17 years; this will be his 11th season at St. Pius. Coach Thacker has been head coach of the 8th grade team for seven years. He is also the director of the Lions AAU/YBOA girls' basketball club that emphasizes the development of basketball skills of girls' in the St. Pius community who are 10 years of age and older.

 

Claudio azurmendi

7TH GRADE COACH

Claudio Azurmendi has been coaching the 7th grade girls team for many years. Azurmendi emphasizes and develops basketball fundamentals, and teaches an understanding of the game.  Azurmendi is in his 10th season with the St. Pius X basketball program.
