News: iTunes Store Creates a Movie Bargain Bin

111208_tf_itunesfivers.JPGI have an addictive habit that has decreased the change in my pockets by a little, but increased my DVD collection by leaps and bounds. On Fridays or Saturdays—or any days, really—when a friend and I are in one of those 'we-wanna-stay-in-and-watch-a-flick' moods, instead of heading to Blockbuster, we've taken to heading to Wal-Mart and picking up a $4.98 DVD out of their big bargain bins. Sure, sometimes there's nothing there and you just have to delight in the thrill of the chase. But sometimes you find a hidden gem, like the copy of the Rocky Horror Picture Show I scored a little while back. The iTunes store wants to bring that same fun to their new "This Week's Great Movies Under $5" section...

Virgin Media: A Fast Modem Gets a Shiny Makeover

111208_an_virgin-media-cable-modem-1.jpgIt's been a while since we've seen a networking item worth blogging about. We love what Belkin has done with their N1 Vision Wireless Router and N+ Wireless Router, but as far as modems go, we've always thrown them into a dark corner of our homes and were ashamed of even letting it see the day of light. Virgin Media looks to change all of that, and with the introduction of their sleek new 50Mbps cable modem, they're starting to make us believe that just because it lacks more than one function, it doesn't have to skimp on the design department.

The Leopard Robotic Chair: Can You Do This Aeron?

2008_11_12-robot-chair.jpgI am lucky enough to sit in an Aeron chair all day at the office. I love it. It is by far the most comfortable chair I have ever used, I wish I had one at home. As comfortable as this chair is though, Herman Miller is not sitting on it's hands in the ultra comfortable chair department. While the newly designed embody is definitely raising the bar, a Japanese company is shooting even higher, with robotics.....

Hot or Not? Stovetop Range With LCD TV

111208_sz_range.jpg Why oh why would you need an LCD in your rangehood? We've always thought it was weird to have appliances with embedded TVs or iPod docks, but this takes the cake. Who wants to watch a TV that's almost flush against the ceiling?

Nano TV: What is this? A TV for Ants?

111208_tf_nanotv1.jpgAh, the iPod Nano: So compact and cute, but it packs a punch—as all iPods do—in the storage capacity department. But don't you wish your iPod Nano had just a little bigger screen to watch all those videos you store? If you answered yes to that question and also have a sense of humor and a jones for retro tech, then we'd like to introduce you to the Nano TV...

Solar and SNES Digital Clocks : Videogames, Sun and Time Combined

111108_rg_snesclock_01.jpgMost households had a SNES. In fact mine had an NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube one after the other. The Nintendo brand is ubiquitous with gaming. It's no wonder with all the Wii craze that people have started modifying their old systems to recycle them. The cases are almost iconic. Solar clocks are also a good idea. Harnessing solar power is always a plus in a clock. It's too bad that we don't see more clocks that use solar power to work. Read on to find out more about two great clocks that we found!

Go Shiny: Pioneer's Own Little (Big) Bluray Home Cinema System

111108_an_pioneer-bluraysystem-728-753.jpgIt looks like shiny is getting more and more popular this coming year of consumer electronics. From the major overhauls of the Apple laptops, to higher end desks, anything that's finished with a gleaming glossy finish seems to be getting that nod of approval from consumers. This new omni-directional sound system from the plasma screen masters Pioneer continues that trend, with every angle and design focus screaming, "I'm contemporary, buy me!"

GoodGuide iPhone App Helps Find Green Products

111108goodguide-01.jpg
We were recently over at our local grocery store perusing the selection of laundry detergent when we overheard a couple people discussing the merits of certain detergent formulas ("...this one isn't tested on animals and is made with plant oils"). But after they left we noticed some of the info they mentioned wasn't correct after carefully checking the labels. The GoodGuide is an iPhone app that could have come in handy in this sort of situation. With data about over 65,000 products, ranging from toothpaste, shampoo, household cleaners and just about any other home product which you might have concerns about using in and around the home, the GoodGuide is a careful shopper's dream app (and free!)

Ultracapacitor Flashlight Charges Up in 90 Seconds, Lasts 135 Years!

111108lightforlife.jpgThese days there are hardly any products you can say that are truly built to last a lifetime, but this might indeed be the case with the Light For Life UC3.400 flashlight from 5.11 Tactical. The Light for Life uses ultracapacitors instead of batteries to charge up in a blink of an eye 90 seconds and can be recharged over and over 50,000 times! The heavy duty flashlight is aimed at those in professions such as the police and military, offered at $170 and available sometime early next year. All things considered, the flashlight seems like a steal. More info below about how it works and order info...

Burning Question: Why Is Printer Ink So Darn Expensive?

111108_sz_ink.jpg For some of us, printer ink is a sore subject. While we don't seem to have the problem of having to replace cartridges that are still full, we do feel the pinch in our wallets every time we run down to Staples or Office Max to buy replacements. Throwing down for both B&W; and color cartridges usually leaves us about $60 in the hole, and in these hard times that can be anxiety inducing.

The last time we picked up some much needed ink we got flustered at the cost and decided to talk to a printer expert about why the heck inks are so expensive. What we found out after the jump...

From Living Room to Psychedelic Pussycat Swingers Club?

111108_tf_colorlight.jpgWe have to admit that if we had a time-travel fantasy, our destination would be 1960's London as portrayed in the Austin Powers films, complete with mod colorblock dresses, go-go boots, men with awful teeth, cars decorated with the union jack and lots and lots of... colors. To get a start on turning our living room into our own private Psychedelic Pussycat Swingers Club, we'll start with a bunch of these groovy remote-controlled multi-colored lightbulbs...
