Brent Cockbain made his Wales debut against Romania in 2003 and went on to start in four of Wales's 2003 Rugby World Cup matches. He also has caps for Australia at U19 and U21 levels, qualifying for Wales under the residency ruling.

Cockbain scored his first and only try for Wales against Italy in the Grand Slam winning RBS Six Nations campaign of 2005. He was flown out to join the 2005 British and Irish Lions in New Zealand as a late replacement for Danny Grewcock.

Cockbain's previous clubs include Queensland Reds, London Irish, Pontypridd and the Celtic Warriors. He currently plays at lock for the Ospreys, having joined the region in 2004.

Cockbain appeared for Wales in the 2005 autumn internationals against New Zealand and Fiji but sustained a detached hamstring after suffering a hyper-extension of the knee as the studs of his boot caught in the turf. He missed the 2006 Invesco Perpetual Series due to suspension but appeared for Wales in the 2007 RBS Six Nations as a replacement against France.

May 2007 saw Cockbain included in the Wales squad to tour Australia. He played in the first Test in Sydney but took a knock to the head which ensured his exclusion from the second Test.
