Keeping alive a precious memory

The Illuminati quiz for college students will be held at Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, on December 8.

KOCHI: Sandeep Menon continues to live in the memories of his friends, who remember him as “a role model in many ways”. A former student of Model Engineering College at Thrikkakara, Sandeep died of brain tumour on May 3, 2008.

In a rich tribute to the young talent, who left this world prematurely, his friends have come together to organise an event in which Sandeep had really excelled. Come December 8, and the Model Engineering College will witness the best of quizzing talents battling it out for “The Illuminati Quiz” trophy.

N. Sadashiv, Sandeep’s friend and Placement Cell Student Co-ordinator, said that Sandeep was extremely active in college too. “He continued to balance his academic interests with his two big loves – quizzing and writing. He was the founder and coordinator of ‘The Iluminati’, the quiz group of MEC and he was the “Illuminatus”. The group was responsible for conducting internal quizzes and training newcomers,” he said.

Thejaswi Udupa from the Karnataka Quiz Association will be the quiz master of Illuminati quiz. It is a general quiz for college students. Candidates should be pursuing a fulltime degree in any discipline. They should bring their college identity cards to participate in the programme. The team size should not be greater than or less than two. Cross college teams (i.e. teams with members from different colleges) will not be allowed. There will be a written preliminary round. Six teams will make it to the finals.

The first prize winners will walk away with Rs.15,000 while the second prize winners will get Rs.10,000. For the third place, the prize is Rs.5,000. Online registration is open at www.
