If you were dreaming of a green Christmas, just like the one you used to know, you're in luck in many parts of Canada.

Santa should be able to put away his raincoat when he visits Halifax. That Atlantic city had experienced showers on Christmas Eve. Christmas is predicted to be a sunny day there.

St. John's, N.L. is expected to see a mix of rain and snow overnight. There will be no blanket of fresh white stuff on Montreal or Ottawa.

In Toronto, Esti Friedman was enjoying a skate at Nathan Phillips Square in front of City Hall. "I saw somebody come here with their roller blades, take off their roller blades, put on their ice skates and go skating," she told CTV Toronto. "Isn't that great!"

She would like a light dusting for Christmas, but could live without it.

David Campos, visiting from Brazil and also out for a skate, said: "I didn't see snow! I hope to see snow!"

Toronto hasn't seen a below-zero day since Dec. 9. Weather forecasts did not predict a white Christmas, which technically requires two centimetres of snow on the ground.

For colder weather and flakes on the ground, go northwest, young man. In Ontario, there's snow on the ground in the Thunder Bay vicinity and other parts of northern Ontario.

The Prairies will enjoy a frosty Christmas eve, but there's no fresh  snow in the forecast. Winnipeg has snow on the ground. Northern Alberta may experience some freezing rain.

Santa will need a raincoat when he visits Vancouver, but the wind might tear any umbrella out of his hand.

Wind warnings have been issued for much of the B.C. Coast, extending into the central interior.

If Campos wanted snow, he should have holidayed in Whistler, B.C. That ski resort should get 15 to 25 cm of fresh snow by Christmas night.
