Canadian Postage Rates Go Up

Postal Services in Canada Effective Monday January 12, 2009, the price of a stamp to mail a first-class letter, card or postcard inside Canada goes up two cents, from 52 cents to 54 cents.

Mailing a letter to the United States has also gone up two cents to 98 cents from 96 cents. Mailing letters to other countries now costs $1.65, up from $1.60.

Canada Post has also put in place other price increases for parcels, transaction mail and direct marketing services.

2008 Canadian Income Tax Packages Available

Are you anxious to get going on your Canadian income taxes? Then you'll be pleased to know the 2008 income tax packages are now available. If you filed a Canadian income tax return last year, you should be getting one in the mail any time now. The type of form you receive in the mail is based on the return you filed last year. If you don't get a package, need a different one or an extra one, you can download one online, order a printed package online, order one by phone, or pick one up in person.

And if you're a late filer, you can also download income tax packages for previous years.

Parliament Buildings Fire 1916

While World War I was raging in Europe, the Canadian Parliament Buildings in Ottawa caught fire on a freezing winter's night in 1916. Rumours were rife that the Parliament Buildings fire was caused by enemy sabotage, but a Royal Commission into the fire concluded that the cause was accidental.
