As Mayor of the town Miskolc it is my pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the citizens of the biggest town in North Hungary. Please get acquainted with history, cultural treasures of our ancient and venerable town and also with the natural resources of Miskolc-Tapolca and Lillafüred. Miskolc is the third most populated town of Hungary. Besides, it isthe administrative, economic, educational and scientific center of the North Hungarian region, and also the capital of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county. Our main touristic attraction, the cave bath and spa in Miskolc-Tapolca is a unique natural formation in Europeas well. The favourable concentration of the minerals in the thermal water, the healing air of the cave, and the significant innovations of our days made the cave a complex home for leisure and healing.

The Bükk mountain and the quick streams of Lillafüred awaits tourists all the year. The most famous spectacles of the hills’ resort is the Palotaszálló (Palota Hotel) and the waterfall which is the largest one in Hungary. A protected alley with horse-chestnuts leads to one of the most attended touristic attractions of Miskolc, the Diósgyőr Castle. From its four characteristic towers visitors can enjoy the beautiful view to the hills nearby. Visitors are entertained with cultural programs every year.

The inner city of Miskolc has many architectural, artistic and historical memory. Among them the reformist church and bell tower on the Avas hill has a prominent place. On the pedestrian precinct, which is part of the longest main street of Europe, there are citizen houses in baroque and eclectic style. One of the most significant sights of the town is the Greek Orthodox Church and the Museum of Hungarian Orthodox Church nearby. The first stone theater of Hungary is the National Theater of Miskolc, which awaits the fans of culture with one of the most modern building complex of Europe, owing to the reconstructions of the previous years. The theater provides home for the town’s newest and most famous event, the „Bartók + ...” International Opera Festival of Miskolc.
