Is it really over for Red Sox and Teixeira?
If the Red Sox have pulled out of the Mark Teixeira talks for good it would be a stunner to a lot of baseball people.
Sox, Boras square off again
Are the Red Sox no longer a factor in the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes, as owner John Henry claimed in an e-mail perfectly timed to make the late newscasts? Perhaps, but given the history between the Sox and agent Scott Boras, it's hard not to consider it little more than another negotiating tactic.

This week in OT
In this week's OT, Tony Massarotti gives Red Sox fans 243 million rea$ons to fear New York, Chad Finn points out that in some ways this Patriots team has been more fun to watch than the 16-0 version a year ago, and Charles P. Pierce proposes a round of layoffs (the Lions for starters) for the NFL. (12/18/08)

Sox, Boras square off again
What we have here, it seems, is a rather high-stakes game of poker. Does Mark Teixeira really have better offers? Are the Sox really prepared to walk? Or are Scott Boras and the Sox just playing another game of chicken? The Sox are in way too deep to just walk away now, which suggests they are merely calling Boras's bluff.

Is it really over for Sox and Teixeira?
If the Red Sox have pulled out of the Mark Teixeira talks for good it would be a stunner to a lot of baseball people. Of the people the Globe's Nick Cafardo talked to today about John Henry's e-mail in which he said that Boston "will not be a factor" for Teixeira, none seem to hear any finality in that statement.
