Governor Sonny Perdue - Sonny Perdue is the first Republican
Governor since Reconstruction. David served as his Administration Floor
Leader in the State Senate during the 2005 Legislative Session. David
introduced bills proposed by the Governor and worked to see that they were
passed by the General Assembly.
Georgia Republican Party - David worked as Executive Director of
the Georgia Republican Party in the early 1990s. Later, as a volunteer,
he served as Chairman of the
Georgia Republican Foundation, its major donor group.
Casey Cagle for Lieutenant Governor - David helped recruit
Casey Cagle to run for the State Senate in 1994 and was privileged to be
his seat mate when he joined him in the Senate in 2002. David has
endorsed Casey for Lieutenant Governor and is enthusiastically backing his
campaign.
Republican Leadership Fund - David serves as Honorary Chairman of
the Republican Leadership Fund. This political action committee was
formed in 2004 to help elect Republicans to the Georgia General Assembly.
Gwinnett County Republican Party - David has been active in the
Gwinnett County Republican Party for over fifteen years. He has served on
both the County Committee and County Executive Committee. David
encourages all Gwinnett Republicans to join the local party and attend its
monthly breakfast forum.
Gwinnett County Young Republicans - David was one of the
founders of the Gwinnett County Young Republicans (when he was young!)
Fulton County Republican Party - David has been a sustaining
member of the Fulton County Republican Party for many years, long before
his district was re-drawn to include North Fulton. He encourages all
North Fulton Republicans to join the local party and participate in the
North Fulton Republican Breakfast.
Buckhead Young Republicans - For his service to the
Republican cause, David has been awarded Honorary Life Membership in the
Buckhead Young Republicans. He recently gave an interview
for the BYR newsletter about the history of the Young Republican movement
in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Live Oak Republicans - David serves on the Board of Trustees for
the Live Oak Republicans. This new group of young professionals helps
raise funds for state and local Republican candidates.
Republican Liberty Caucus - The RLC was founded in 1990 to promote
the principles of individual liberty, free markets and limited government
within the Republican Party. David was named Honorary Chairman of the
Republican Liberty Caucus of Georgia when it was chartered in 2002 and
received the group's Champion of Liberty Award.

"Friends of David Shafer" at Facebook Dot Com - A group has been
formed for friends and supporters of David at Facebook, a website for high
school and college students.
Community
Angel Flight of Georgia David strongly supports this
organization of volunteer pilots who provide free air transportation to
medical patients requiring treatment at distant facilities.
David's father, a big-hearted private pilot, founded Angel Flight in
1983. The group's annual fundraising golf tournament, the Jim
Shafer Memorial Tournament of Angels, is named in his memory.
Duluth Fall Festival
- David is a strong supporter of the Duluth
Fall Festival, the best fall festival in Georgia. It is held every year
on the last weekend of September. David usually participates in the
parade and opening ceremony on Saturday and works the clean up committee
on Sunday.
National Federation of Independent Business - NFIB represents
America' small businesses. David was introduced to NFIB in high school
through the Junior Achievement program, and has been a member himself for
almost a decade. David has a 100% pro-NFIB voting record and received the
group's Guardian of Small Business Award.
Partnership Against Domestic Violence - David served for three
years on the Board of Directors of the Partnership Against Domestic
Violence. He began his service when the organization was called the
Council on Battered Women. PADV operates two shelters, one of which is
located in Gwinnett County.
Rotary Club of Gwinnett County
- David is an active Rotarian. He belongs to the Rotary Club of
Gwinnett County but has enjoyed "making up" at club meetings throughout
Gwinnett County and metro Atlanta. News

David's friend Matt Montgomery, this site is an excellent source of
information about Republican and other political events throughout the
metropolitan Atlanta area. Matt also publishes a free weekly email
newsletter.
