Zeta-Jones' Alleged Stalker To Be Examined

The woman accused of stalking Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta- Jones has had a psychiatrist appointed to examine her. Los Angeles Superior Court judge John Wiley has ordered that 32-year-old Dawnette Knight be examined by Dr. Kal Sharma by September 15. The psychiatrist will determine whether Knight is competent to stand trial and work with her lawyer. The examination will be conducted in jail, where Knight is being held on $1 million bail. Knight, who wrote numerous letters threatening the Chicago star, is charged with one felony count of stalking and 24 felony counts of making criminal threats. A hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to put Knight on trial was suspended last month when defense lawyer Richard Herman requested the psychiatric exam after an incident in which he suspected his client attempted suicide. Knight was too drowsy for a court session in July and told her lawyer she had taken sleeping pills, Herman said - but he suspected she tried to overdose on barbiturates. Knight recently apologized for writing the letters and claimed she had been infatuated with Douglas.

Fox Files for Divorce from Williams

Singer and actress Vanessa Williams' efforts to patch up her troubled marriage to Rick Fox have failed - the basketball ace has now filed for divorce. NBA veteran Fox and Williams have given no official reason for the split. The two have been married for five years and have a four-year-old daughter called Sasha. Fox's spokeswoman Staci Wolfe says, "They are both extremely devoted parents, so the most important thing to them right now is the welfare of their child. They are committed to working out what's best for her." Williams, 41, also has three children from her previous marriage to Ramon Hervey. Last month, weeks after they announced their separation, Williams and Fox were spotted enjoying a romantic break in the Bahamas.

Disney and Shyamalan Face Plagiarism Lawsuit

Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan and The Walt Disney Co. are bracing themselves for legal action, after a children's author declared similarities between her book and new movie The Village. The Village, the latest thriller by Shyamalan, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver and Adrien Brody and has proved to be a hit at the American office. But now that much-needed success - Disney has endured a string of flops this year - has been marred by publisher Simon & Schuster Inc's announcement it is reviewing its legal options against the company and Shyamalan. Last week, reports circulated that The Village's plot and surprise ending were parallel to Margaret Peterson Haddix's first book Running Out Of Time, published in 1995. Haddix says she heard about the similarities last week when fans - and then journalists - began calling and emailing her and her publisher to ask if she had sold the book to Shyamalan. She claims she has never spoken to Shyamalan or to Disney, adding, "It's certainly an interesting situation. I'm just examining what my options are." A joint statement from Disney and Shyamalan's Blinding Edge Pictures says: "(We) believe these claims to be meritless". Simon & Schuster spokeswoman Tracy Van Straaten adds, "This is a children's book that sold more than half a million copies and won prizes, so it's not an obscure book for us." Shyamalan has previously battled a copyright lawsuit brought by a Pennsylvania screenwriter who claimed the plot from his 2002 film Signs mirrored his unpublished script Lord Of The Barrens.

Rivers Causes Controversy with Terrorism Jokes

Sassy comedienne Joan Rivers horrified her New York fans last Wednesday when she joked about the recent terrorism alert. The funny woman took the opportunity to mock reports the Citigroup building in Manhattan was a terrorist target at her weekly August gigs at trendy nightspot Fez. Rivers said, "I hope it goes down. It's so ugly. I'm helping them load them (bombs) in." After ignoring gasps and groans from the shocked audience, Rivers continued, "Jewish women will never be terrorists. 'Does the bomb make me look fat?' A Jewish woman will never put a bomb in a Gucci bag, after all the men she f**ked to get it." After her gig, Rivers defended her jokes to American gossip site Pagesix.Com, saying, "We live in horrible reality. How else can you get through it, if not with jokes? You have to laugh about it."

Baldwin Rips Into Bush

Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has courted controversy by branding President George W Bush a "non-entity" who relies on his team to make all of his decisions. Staunch Democrat Baldwin had quieted his politically outspoken ways in recent years, but has now decided it's time to speak out again, after appearing on conservative commentator Bill O' Reilly's The O'Reilly Factor on Monday. After labeling Vice President Dick Cheney a "troubled man", Baldwin continued, "Most of the people that I work with now in whatever issue-related or candidacy-related thing that I'm involved with, they have one problem and they have one problem only - that is that Bush has to go. We believe that the president should be a really smart guy with his own ideas. I think that Bush is a non-entity in his administration. He's like (late Us President Ronald) Reagan. He's a figurehead. He's the host of the show. All of the strings are pulled by other people behind his back. He's a frontman." During Baldwin's rant, host O'Reilly repeatedly warned him he was "making a mistake" with his strong comments, but the actor was quick to insist he's very much a proud American. He said, "I think that if there's one thing that's really troubling to me about this political climate and this kind of dialogue with people who come from where I come from is that they think that people who are progressive, liberal, Democratic - anybody that's not aligned with this (Republican) administration - that they're not patriotic and they don't care about what's happening to the troops overseas. They're wrong."

Shannen Doherty To Play Brooke Burns' Sister

Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty is heading to Hawaii to play the "bitchy" sister of Bruce Willis' ex Brooke Burns in new TV show North Shore. Doherty will start appearing on American TV screens from September 20 as Alexandra Hudson, an "ambitious" long-lost sister of Burns' character Nicole Booth. TV network Fox is hoping to boost the recently-debuted show's struggling ratings by adding some extra screen sizzle with Doherty's mean character. Doherty says, "I'm lucky because I have a really loyal fan base and I hope they come over. We're still fleshing (my character) out. I think Alexandra has a lot of vulnerability. She grew up knowing her dad was alive and that he knew she was alive, yet wanted nothing to do with her. I'm sure she has some daddy issues." The brunette beauty will appear in a three-episode arc on the show, with an option to become a regular fixture if the series is given the go-ahead to continue.

"Save Mary-Kate" T-Shirts Spark Controversy

Teen actress Mary-Kate Olsen's battle with anorexia has inspired a controversial new line of 'Save Mary-Kate' T-shirts. The unlikely fashion items have been launched by fledging design company Randy And Moss, whose owners say they will give 20 per cent of profits from sales of the tops to America's National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). Randy and Moss co-founder Melissa Moss says, "One night we were working on designs and reading magazines that featured Mary-Kate's eating disorder." She and partner Randy Bol, both 25, came up with a design and had the T-shirts ready within a week. They're now being sold on the duo's website Savemarykate.Blogspot.Com, whose rallying motto is, "Together we can do this. One T-shirt at a time." Bol sketched the picture of Mary-Kate, twin sister of Ashley Olsen, complete with protruding ribs and a disproportionately large head - an image some fans have branded "grotesque". Moss counters, "Anorexia is not a beautiful thing." And while the shirts have been selling well, Olsen's representative Michael Pagnotta and NEDA are far from thrilled. Pagnotta says, "I'm not sure what Mary-Kate needs saving from." He is quick to point out that the shirts are not endorsed by Olsen and suggests that the twins' company, Dualstar, may look into a possible copyright- infringement claim. Moss says if Neda declines to accept the donations, she and Bol will find another charity.

Affleck's Ex Fumes Over Media Portrayal

Hollywood star Ben Affleck's latest ex-girlfriend Enza Sambataro has slammed the US tabloid magazines for labeling her a criminal. The Boston sales executive and Daredevil actor began dating in May after meeting at a Boston Red Sox baseball game and spent two months together, before media pressure made it too difficult for their romance to continue. Sambataro explains, "It's not fun to have people write bad things about you, about things you did when you were 16-years-old. I try to live a good, morally correct life and then I get hit with something that happened when I was 16, when I got a parking ticket and didn't pay it because I was afraid to tell my parents about it. So my license got suspended. I'm just a regular person. I didn't want to live in the shadow of Ben Affleck. I didn't want to lose my identity, give up my family, my friends, a career I love, to go live in a shallow place like Los Angeles." Sambataro admits that while she was unprepared for the media circus surrounding their brief relationship, she understands why the paparazzi were so interested in Affleck's new love, following his high-profile split with Jennifer Lopez in January. Sambataro says, "I was the first one after Jennifer Lopez, so I know it was tough for the media not to focus on me. But after living that life for a few months, I know it's not fun." The stunning brunette claims she and Affleck are still in contact - as friends - and she thinks he's a lovely man. She adds, "He's a great guy. He's the most down-to-earth person and he's hysterically funny. I would keel over in stitches every time I watched a Red Sox game with him."

Stars Under Close Watch for NFL Show

Destiny's Child, Elton John, Lenny Kravitz and Mary J. Blige will headline America's National Football League (NFL) Opening Kickoff - and they're on strict orders to be on their best behavior. Still reeling from Janet Jackson's Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" in February, when her exposed breast sparked a broadcasting decency shake- up, NFL bosses are promising to keep the newly-recruited stars in check. NFL officials plan to attend rehearsals, monitor song selections, choreography and staging. The NFL has also been assured by record companies that their artists will be well-behaved. The stars, including country singer Toby Keith, will headline the September 9 pre-game show at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, preceding the season opener between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. Jessica Simpson will perform at a separate show in Jacksonville, Florida.

Damon the Hero

Oscar-winner Matt Damon turn into a real-life hero when he rescued a woman after she collapsed on a Hollywood path. The Ocean's Eleven star was jogging down a secluded Los Angeles street when he discovered the lady sprawled across the pavement. Damon revived her by sprinkling water from his sports bottle on her face and hands and soon discovered she had become dehydrated and had fainted due to the heat. Helpful Damon waited with the woman until her friend arrived to assist her home and happily posed for photographs and signed autographs.
