Tuesday, December 23, 2008 Gov. Mike Easley and First Lady Mary Easley participated in the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, on the west side of the Capitol grounds. The festivities began at 5 p.m. with musical performances by St. Mary’s Chorale and the Raleigh Concert Band. The governor and first lady hung wreaths on the Capitol’s west doors to begin the official tree lighting ceremony at 6:15 p.m.   -> full story

Monday, November 17, 2008 Gov. Mike Easley announced today that North Carolina damage assessment teams have begun surveying destruction in Johnston and Wilson counties from a tornado that damaged or destroyed more than 50 structures in those counties early Saturday morning. Two people were killed as the twister tore through communities while people were sleeping.   -> full story
