Felton Named Second Team NBA All-Rookie

In a tightly contested vote, Bobcats guard Raymond Felton was named to the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

For the second straight year Charlotte is represented on the all-rookie unit, as Felton joins last year’s Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor, who made the 2004-05 First Team, in receiving the honor.

The fifth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Felton got stronger every month as the season progressed, increasing his averages in points, assists and field goal percentage every month.

Felton finished the 2005-06 season ranked fourth among NBA rookies in scoring with 11.9 points, second with 5.6 assists and second with 1.28 steals. He is also one of only two rookies to rank in the top five in all three categories and posted the highest scoring average of any rookie since February 1 this season.

He was named NBA Eastern Conference T-Mobile Rookie of the Month for the third consecutive time for games played in April after taking home the honor in February and March. He averaged 17.2 points, 9.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.1 rebounds in nine games and led all rookies in scoring and assists for the month in helping the Bobcats to a franchise-best 6-3 record in April.

Felton was the first Bobcats player in franchise history to win NBA Rookie of the Month honors three consecutive months. Last year, Okafor won the award in November and December and also captured the honor in April.

He posted two of the top three scoring performances by a rookie this season, totaling a career-high 31 points on February 25 at Phoenix and 30 points on March 22 at Cleveland.

Felton totaled 40 points from the 30 NBA head coaches on the voting panel. The coaches were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets Chris Paul was the only unanimous First Team selection and was joined by Toronto’s Charlie Villanueva (56 points), Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut (55 points), Utah’s Deron Williams (46 points) and New York’s Channing Frye (45 points).

The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Indiana’s Danny Granger (43 points), Felton (40 points), Houston’s Luther Head (28 points), Atlanta’s Marvin Williams (15 points) and Boston’s Ryan Gomes (14 points).
