Broadway Market Awarded 501(c)(3) Status

Story Options

If you were wondering how many days are left until Easter (or how much longer you have to go with that Lenten sacrifice) check out the Broadway Market site. They have installed a "Countdown to Easter 2007" clock on the front page to keep you in the know.

The Broadway Market is always a great place to go for meats, butter lambs or chocolate covered strawberries and they will now be able to continue going in a positive direction due to their new status as a 501(c)(3), non-profit, organization. The market's application for a designation change was approved by the Internal Revenue Service this past week and the new status gives the market the ability to apply to private foundations for funding of market improvement projects. This is a great boost to the market itself, not to mention the local area that it serves. Best of all, it ensures that the market will stick around for years to come.

If you have not been to the Broadway Market, you are definitely missing out!

The market houses family-owned and operated butcher shops, poultry stands, fruit & vegetable stands and bakeries, along with specialty shops and restaurants that service the Broadway/Fillmore neighborhood.

Special events also take place monthly, such as the upcoming cake decorating demonstration by Melanie Krygier-LaMastra, owner of Melanie's Sweets. The demonstration will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, the 17th of March 2007 and showcase Melanie's "signature" Easter treats.

Another great event is the Savor the Flavor seminars held by the market. As it states on the market website -

"Savor the Flavor is part of an ongoing campaign for Western New Yorkers and people in Southern Ontario to Come Home Again to the Market and shop at this historic marketplace year-round."

Classes begin at 11am and boast celebrity chefs and themes. More information about the Savor the Flavor events can be found here. Whatever you hunger for, be a part of history and the future of Buffalo by shopping with local vendors who care at the Broadway Market!
