Can't open .dmg (Disk Images) since 10.4.8

Hi
Since I installed 10.4.8 update I cannot open any .dmg files - including ones that I have previously opened with no problems.
Whenever I try to open one I get a dialogue pop up which says:
"Warning.
The following disk images failed to mount"
It then states the name of the .dmg and says "Reason: Device not configured"
This is exactly the same for every .dmg.
i have repaired permissions, restarted etc.
Any thoughts or fixes?

Identical issue for me, but according to Dr. Smoke, it isn't a 'buggy' upgrade, it's due to your OS directory being corrupt to begin with... or something along those lines - you can read my thread if you'd like.
The experts here know a lot more than I ... so I'm sure you'll get some helpful advice from them
Just thought I'd let you know you weren't alone .. but I'm very frustrated with my situation.

Rest assured it isn't the update alone which caused this. I can open DMG files just fine in 10.4.8.
It sounds to me either your preferences or cache were corrupted, and the update simply made it more apparent they were corrupted than they were before.
Is your data backed up?

Hi guys.
Thanks for the response.
I found the solution on another forum. And everything is working fine now:
Move these files to the Desktop and restart and try a .dmg;
/System/Library/Extension.kextcache
/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernalcaches/
I actually had to restart twice as the first restart made a mess of my bluetooth mouse, but after the second everything is fine.
