Man Shot Twice Inside Theater At Greensboro Mall

GREENSBORO - According to the Greensboro Police Department, a man was shot two times inside the Four Seasons Mall movie theater during a sold out opening of the rap movie "Notorious" on Friday night. People at the scene said the whole theater was evacuated after the shooting.

The Greensboro Police Department said the shooting took place at around 9:06pm at the Four Seasons movie theater at 2700 Vanstory Street in Greensboro. The multiplex is next to Four Seasons Mall, which is the largest shopping center in Greensboro.

In statements made on Saturday, police said the victim in the shooting was Clive O’Connor, age 32, and that he was transported to the hospital after being shot twice in the abodomen. O'Connor was being treated at Moses Cone Hospital where he underwent surgery, said police.

In police statements, the department said that O'Connor "got into an argument" with an unknown person, who evidently shot him and then escaped. Police have made no arrests in the case and have no suspects at this time.

According to an on-scene report by WFMY-TV2 on Friday night, the theater was immediately evacuated and in 11pm news videos, the theater at Four Seasons Mall was seen surrounded by several police cars, while the parking lot was almost entirely cleared.

On Friday night at the theater, the rap movie "Notorious" opened on several screens and according to various reader postings on area websites, some showings of the movie were sold out. As a result, said commenters, there were several hundred people there waiting to see the movie including some frustrated patrons who had to wait in the cold to get tickets.

The movie "Notorious" is about the life of rapper "Biggie" Smalls or Notorious B.I.G., who was shot and killed in 1997 in Los Angeles. His murder remains unsolved.

Lt. James Hinson of the Greensboro Police Department told the (Greensboro) News & Record newspaper in an article by Ryan Seals that he could not say if the theater shooting was related to the movie.

However, evidently the Four Seasons theater management saw a connection, as the theater has informed the media that it has taken the unusual step of deciding to drop the film entirely from its lineup and that it will not be showing it in the future.

In a strange twist, Ryan Seals of the News & Record also reported that Jamal Woolard, the actor who played Biggie Smalls in the "Notorious" movie, was actually at the Four Seasons theater in Greensboro during the shooting.

Violence surrounding the "Notorious" movie was not limited to Greensboro. The Associated Press is reporting that four men were stabbed at a New York City nightclub where an after party was held for the film debut of "Notorious" on Friday night.
