What is SLAPP Litigation?
The purpose of a SLAPP lawsuit is not to recover damages but to inflict them using litigation as a weapon.
Win or lose the personal financial and emotional cost of litigation for ordinary middle-class people is enormous - livelihood, family and home are on the line.
When a corporation takes advantage of deep pockets and this real-world reality to sue critics into submission, it is a cold calculated legal strategy called SLAPP.
Individuals who oppose or complain about a corporation wind up spending years fighting their SLAPP lawsuit and are forced to abondon the underlying issue they were fighting in the first place.
SLAPP suits usually lose in Court but that is not how their success is measured. A SLAPP is successful if the victim gives up and files for bankruptcy, suicides or is otherwise so financially and emotionally ruined their initial complaint is no longer a threat.
