What is Primobolan?

One of the two anabolic steroids that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez tested positive for while with the Texas Rangers in 2003 -- Primobolan -- is a commonly used one.
The drug is what is known as a dihydrotestosterone-based anabolic steroid (or DHT). According to the website, Steroid.com, Primobolan is a fairly weak steroid when used on its own. It does, however, "improve strength and build lean muscle, with minimal bulk development" according to the SI article.
Because of this, most people who use Primobolan, use it during what is known as "Cutting Cycles," where the goal is not to increase mass.
However, according to the drugs profile at BuyPrimobolan.com, combining "Primo" with a bulking-up drug like testosterone (which the Sports Illustrated report says that Rodriguez also failed his '03 drug test for) it generally is to "lower the overall androgen dosage and minimize uncomfortable side effects."
The BuyPrimobolan.com website also says that the injectable version of the drug is often preferred to the oral one, because of the cost.
In Sports Illustrated's story, a search of the Food and Drug Administration's records showed that Primobolan is "not an approved prescription drug in the United States, nor was it in 2003. (Testosterone can be taken legally with an appropriate medical prescription.)"
