Past Events: James Taylor Bridge Dedication Free To All Folks

James Taylor Bridge

On Saturday, April 26th, the Morgan Creek Bridge was dedicated to Chapel Hill's own James Taylor. He attended the dedication ceremony held at 1:00 pm in UNC-Chapel Hill's Dean Dome. The public was encouraged to attend the dedication. The Bridge Dedication Ceremony was free to All Folks. The doors opened at Noon!

Local Boy Scouts presented the colors, local Girl Scouts lead those in attendance in the pledge of allegiance. Governor Mike Easley spoke at the dedication. Brief presentations were given by the Town of Chapel Hill's Mayor Kevin Foy, and Morgan Kenney, Chapel Hill Museum's Executive Director.

The Chapel Hill High School Band provided musical accompaniment with a medley of James Taylor tunes, and videos will be presented featuring Mr. Taylor concerts and images from his time in Chapel Hill while growing up.

The Chapel Hill Museum, in conjunction with the Town of Chapel Hill and Orange County, petitioned the NC Department of Transportation to have the 15-501 bridge over Morgan Creek named for Mr. Taylor. We were delighted to have been a part of this event.
