Jeanne (Doucet) Currie

Biography

Jeanne (Doucet) Currie, writer, singer/songwriter and storyteller, is an acadian formerly from the region of Clare in Nova Scotia and now living in Annapolis Royal. Accompanied by her husband, Wayne Currie, she presents a lively and moving selection of songs with an Acadian flavour. Jeanne writes the words to all of her songs, while she sometimes collaborates with Stéphane Déraspe or Wayne Currie for the music. Many of the words come from her poems which appear in her book Grandir à la Baie, published in 2003.  Jeanne was also a finalist in the 11 th and 12 th edition of the Nova Scotian Acadian Gala de la Chanson. Since 2004, Jeanne's three CDs, En Acadie nous voici !, Elle s'en souvient! et Serrons-nous la main have garnished five nominations from Music Nova Scotia and seven Bartchette awards from Radio CIFA.

In the autumn 2008 issue of SOCAN's glossy quarterly French magazine, “Parole et Musicque”, journalist Pierre Landry calls Jeanne “a scintillating Acadian….” In September, Music Nova Scotia nominated her as Francophone Artiste of the Year and as Country/Bluegrass Artiste of the Year. Her third album ‘ Serrons-nous la main' was among the 10 albums selected for the Franco Country, CBC/Radio-Canada Galaxie from July to September 2008.  Jeanne was also filmed for a VIA TVA television show. She has presented her flavour of l'Acadie in the Maritimes, in the Yukon (2007) and in France (2008) . She will make you laugh, sing and laisser les bons temps rouler!!!

Jeanne (Doucet) Currie continues to be passionate about sharing her culture and her joie de vivre!
