Never a dull moment with Estelle

February 05, 2009

THE English premiere of the one-woman musical, Estelle Bright, comes to the Mill Studio, Guildford, from Thursday to Saturday, February 12 to 14.

Estelle Bright is English and lives in Paris. She is bubbly, romantic, fun, just a tad quirky and very endearing – a subtle cocktail of Englishness that the French find utterly charming.

Yes, life is pretty good for Estelle. And she firmly believes that we will all one day, find true love. Herself, in particular.

This musical, originally written in French, is a novel story performed by an English actress who sings in English and French, acts in English and French and dances in English only.

Estelle is a savvy blend of Sweet Charity and Carrie Bradshaw. With her around there is never a dull moment!

Estelle is played by Sarah Tullamore, who was born in Carshalton and grew up in Banstead.

Her big break came when she landed the Pocahontas show contract with Disney in 1999, paving the way for her musical theatre career.

Tullamore said: “After a couple of years I felt the need to do something completely original of my own and my early notes turned into what is now my show, Estelle Bright.

"I felt the ultimate challenge would be to do a one-woman show in French! If I could do that, I could do anything.”

After meeting the director Frédéric Baptiste, who was the resident director of Sam Mendes’ Cabaret, the show really came together.

“Now we’re going to test out Estelle Bright in English and see what British audiences think. Who knows, maybe it’s not the end of the story yet,” Tullamore said.

Tickets are on sale from the box office on 01483 440000.
