Hydro Fertilizers, a unit of Norsk Hydro, acquired Britag Industries from Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) for an estimated 10 mil British pounds ($16.3 mil US). ICI had disclosed in February 1991 that it planned to divest of non-core assets as part of its restructuring program. There was also speculation that the divestiture was part of a defensive strategy to increase shareholder value since the May 1991 rumor of a Hanson bid for ICI.
