Database Developer and Administrator

About.com a top ten Web property and one of the Internet's leading content destinations, is looking for a talented database administrator with programming skills to add to its About Operations team. An About Associate DBA builds, maintains, and operates reliable data-stores and programs in a mixed OS but UNIX-centric development environment in order to maintain the integrity of the About.network.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with web based technologies and understand the business ramifications of accurate, reliable, and easy to access and update data. This position calls for a sharp, motivated, and meticulous team player that believes both in Agile Software Development and leveraging Open Source Solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure for the continued accuracy, reliability, and integrity of About.com's data systems
  • Work with other team members to define and implement needed new development
  • Maintain and develop tools to support the smooth operation of the About Network
  • Continue to proactively improve and enhance About.com's data systems
  • Support the end-users of About.com's data-stores

Requirements

  • Familiar with the following technologies: Web Serving, Apache, HTML, Cookies, XML, shell scripting
  • Good PHP programming skills
  • Strong UNIX user skills (some UNIX admin or developer skills a plus)
  • Able to read and write C/C++ or Java AND the ability to quickly pick up the other
  • Able to read and write Perl and modify existing code
  • Good SQL skills and relational database knowledge in either Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and/or MySQL
  • Strong communication and teaming skills in multiple mediums (email, aim, face-to-face)

About.com is looking for a talented software developer leader to join its team as an Infrastructure Developer. The Infrastructure Developer build highly scalable web applications, middle-ware, and back-ends to support About?s world-class, reliable, and cost effective UNIX-centric architecture.

The ideal candidate for the Infrastructure Developer will be very familiar with web based technologies and understand the business ramifications of scalable, reliable, extensible, and streamlined systems. Responsibilities:

  • Ensure for the continued reliable up-time of the About.com infrastructure
  • Create world class, cost-effective, tools and infrastructure and web applications in a full project life-cycle environment: design, build, test, implement, support (including real-time), enhance
  • Continue to proactively improve and enhance the About.com infrastructure by bringing new ideas and methods into the team
  • Support and enhance high volume wen applications as needed

Requirements:

  • Familiar with all of the following technologies: Apache, FreeBSD,CGI, HTML, XML, SSI, JavaScript, CSS, SQL
  • 1-2 years Object oriented web programming experience Perl/Java/C#/PHP or other.
  • Experience/Comfortable working in a Unix shell environment without an IDE.

Senior Developer, Ad Systems

About.com is looking for a talented software developer to manage and work with its Ad Sales System Development team. Ad Sales System Development team builds, maintains, and operates reliable web sales and accounting support systems based on Perl, Oracle, and HTML.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with web based technologies and understand the business ramifications of accurate, reliable, and streamlined sales support systems. This position calls for a motivated and meticulous team player that believes both in maintainable, reliable code and clean, well-documented design. This is a hands-on position that requires both active long term product development management and day-to-day programming, operational and internal request support.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure for the continued accuracy and reliability of Ad Sales Support systems
  • Work with other team members and divisions to define and implement needed new business systems
  • Continue to proactively improve and enhance Ad Sales systems
  • Support the end-users of Ad Sales Support systems
  • Integrate numerous external third-party ad sales and finance systems

Manager of Client Services

The Manager of Client Services will be responsible for managing a team of Account Managers, Planners and Supervisors, with the goal of driving profitable revenue to the clients’ metrics. You will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Sales who is the type of person you will truly enjoy working with on a daily basis.

Qualifications Needed

  • At least four years of online marketing experience
  • Account management/ client services experience
  • At least three years experience managing direct reports in a fast-paced, quality-focused client services department
  • Proven history of managing a team to successfully attain or exceed aggressive goals
  • Outstanding leadership skills, including lead by example management style
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, MBA a plus.
