Assembly Republican Leader Jim Tedisco Endorses Sandy Treadwell for Congress

Saratoga Springs, NY:  Assembly Republican Leader Jim Tedisco (R-C-I, Schenectady-Saratoga) held a press conference Saratoga Springs today to endorse Sandy Treadwell to be the next Congressman for the people of the 20th Congressional District.

Treadwell is the Republican, Independence and Conservative Party candidate for the 20th CD.

"I'm proud to give my strong endorsement of a great friend - and a great Republican - Sandy Treadwell, in his race for Congress.  I've had the privilege of knowing Sandy for some time and I know firsthand that he has the character, integrity and values we need as our trusted voice in Congress," said Tedisco.

"Sandy Treadwell will help clean up the mess in Washington, and fight for the reforms we need and the change we want.  Sandy Treadwell will vote to cut taxes on families and small businesses, hold the line on Washington's wasteful spending and restore fiscal sanity to a federal budget that has swelled out of control," Tedisco stated. "Sandy Treadwell will take us in the new direction we need.  I'm very proud to endorse and support him for Congress."

Jim Tedisco serves as Leader of the Assembly Republican Conference and is recognized for his commitment to fiscal responsibility, tax relief, a stronger economy and increased accountability in state government.  Tedisco led the effort to help defeat then Governor Eliot Spitzer's unlawful plan to give illegal aliens driver's licenses and has championed the real property tax cap.

"Jim Tedisco has been a great leader in the Assembly and is constantly working to make New York a better place for families and businesses," Treadwell said.  "I look forward to partnering with him and other state and local officials to address the challenges we face.  With a struggling economy and high energy prices, people in this region and across Upstate New York are hurting.  We need to provide real tax relief, work to lower energy prices, and rebuild the local infrastructure in order to help families, generate economic growth and create jobs.  These are priorities I share with Leader Tedisco and I will work with him to make government more responsive to people's needs."

Sandy Treadwell served as New York Secretary of State from 1995-2001, where he worked with local communities to revitalize their waterfronts and Main Streets, and provide more efficient services to businesses and licensees registered at the Department of State.

Treadwell has pledged to vote against any legislation that would raise taxes on individuals, families and businesses.  He also has proposed a two-track energy plan to reduce our dependence on expensive imported oil and promote the fuels of the future, including wind and solar power and biofuels.  On Monday, he was joined by Leader Tedisco at a press conference announcing a plan to redirect federal earmark funding to help states reduce unexpected budget gaps resulting from a major decline in financial sector revenues.  Under this plan, New York would receive nearly $1.28 billion in federal funds.

The 20th Congressional District includes all or part of the following ten counties:  Saratoga, Warren, Washington, Rensselaer, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Delaware, Essex, and Otsego.
