Mokbel on Moran murder charge

February 28, 2007

Article from:  Australian Associated Press

FUGITIVE drug baron Tony Mokbel has been charged with murder.

Victorian police today said Mokbel, who has been on the run since skipping bail early last year before he was sentenced to 12 years' jail for drug trafficking, had been charged with the murder of gangland patriarch Lewis Moran.

A second man, Noel Faure, 52, pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday to the same murder, while a third man who cannot be named is serving a jail term for the hit.

A police spokeswoman said a warrant had been issued for Mokbel, who has eluded authorities since disappearing last year.
