The AVMA's Governmental Relations Division advocates the Association's policies and positions on federal legislative and regulatory issues that influence animal and human health and advance the veterinary medical profession.

Here you can find out about the legislative issues the AVMA is currently working on, tools for tracking bills and contacting Congress, and other resources to keep you on top of federal activities that impact the veterinary profession.

Through AVMAPAC, veterinarians are able to support the candidates who support the veterinary profession. In this way, AVMAPAC allows individual veterinarians to have a voice on a nationwide level that reaches far beyond their local communities. Find out more!
 
AVMA-CAN Government Action Center

Keep track of legislation affecting the veterinary profession with legislative alerts and updates, read summaries of key bills, find out how your legislators are voting, and how you can make a difference through the AVMA Congressional Advocacy Network.
 
AVMA Congressional Science and Executive Branch Fellowships

The AVMA's Congressional Science and Executive Branch Fellowships offer veterinarians the opportunity to spend a year in Washington, D.C. working in the federal government as a scientific resource.
 
AVMA student externships

The AVMA is offering $1,000 stipends for the 2009 calendar year for up to ten veterinary students to spend four weeks in Washington, D.C. as externs. Selected externs will have a unique opportunity to observe the veterinary profession from an "inside the beltway" perspective.
 
Public policy opportunities for veterinarians

Veterinarians are encouraged and welcome to become involved first hand in public policy making and advancing AVMA's legislative agenda by spending time at AVMA's office in Washington, D.C. Contact us for more information.
