14.12.2008 - germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) has announced additional new summer routes:
Berlin Schoenefeld-Dubrovnik: weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on May 3
Berlin Schoenefeld-Pula: 3x weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on May 5
Cologne/Bonn-Lourdes/Tarbes: 2x weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting between May 18 and June 3
It has given up its routes from Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart to Malta and has temporarily suspended its Cologne/Bonn-Edinburgh route for the winter season.

13.12.2008 - Lufthansa Italia (Milan Malpensa) has been founded as a 100% subsidiary of Lufthansa replacing earlier plans to have Air Dolomiti (EN/Trieste) operate A319-100s out of Milan Malpensa. Lufthansa Italia will start operations in February with six ex-germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) A319-100s:
Milan Malpensa-Barcelona: 3x daily A319-100 service starting on February 2
Milan Malpensa-Brussels Ntl: 2x daily A319-100 service starting on March 2
Milan Malpensa-Bucharest Otopeni: daily A319-100 service starting on March 2
Milan Malpensa-Budapest: 6x weekly A319-100 service starting on March 2
Milan Malpensa-Lisbon: daily A319-100 service starting on March 29
Milan Malpensa-London Heathrow: 4x daily A319-100 service starting on March 29
Milan Malpensa-Madrid: 2x daily A319-100 service starting on March 2
Milan Malpensa-Paris CDG: 3x daily A319-100 service starting on February 2

07.12.2008 - TUIfly (Germany) (X3/Hanover) , Condor (DE/Frankfurt Intl), Eurowings (EW/Dortmund) and germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) have officially given up merger talks and similar talks between TUIfly and Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) have also collapsed. TUIfly has announced some new routes:
Frankfurt Intl-Larnaca-Paphos: weekly B737-800 service (already launched)
Leipzig/Halle-Rijeka: weekly seasonal B737-700 service starting on June 20
Memmingen-Calvi: weekly seasonal B737-700 service starting on May 21
Memmingen-Rijeka: weekly seasonal B737-700 service starting on May 23
It will give up its Hanover-Rome Ciampino and Stuttgart-Pisa routes on January 10 and has already terminated its Dusseldorf Intl-Naples and Hanover-Paris Orly routes. TUIfly will now also not resume its Berlin Tegel-Palermo and Hanover-Pisa services next summer season.

07.12.2008 - Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt) will get 80% majority control of its Star Alliance partner bmi british midland (BD/Nottingham) and its bmi regional (II/Aberdeen) and bmibaby (WW/Nottingham) subsidiaries in early 2009 after Sir Michael Bishop has exercised his option to sell his 50% stake to Lufthansa. It will also take over the remaining 50.9% in Eurowings (EW/Dortmund) and its germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) subsidiary on December 31 from majority shareholder Albert Knauf. It has finalized details of its latest Embraer order and will take delivery of 18 EMB-190s and 12 EMB-195s in 2009. Some of the aircraft will be operated by Air Dolomiti (EN/Trieste) and Augsburg Airways (IQ/Augsburg). Lufthansa has however parked four A300-600s and is planning to also temporarily withdraw three A340-300s from service and will not resume its Munich-Denver route next summer season. It has given up its Frankfurt Intl-Bordeaux and Stuttgart-Dublin/Florence/Olbia routes on October 26 and temporarily suspended its Hamburg-Prague route for the winter season but has announced new services and restructured its network to the Middle East in late October 2008:
Dusseldorf Intl-Inverness: weekly seasonal CRJ-700 service between June 20 and September 12 operated by Lufthansa CityLine (CL/Cologne/Bonn)
Frankfurt Intl-Abu Dhabi-Doha: 3x weekly A330-300/A340-300 service (replacing Doha-Muscat and Dammam/Bahrain-Abu Dhabi)
Frankfurt Intl-Abu Dhabi-Muscat: 3x weekly A330-300/A340-300 service (replacing Doha-Muscat and Dammam/Bahrain-Abu Dhabi)
Frankfurt Intl-Bahrain-Doha: 4x weekly A330-300/A340-300 service (replacing Bahrain-Abu Dhabi and Doha-Muscat)
Frankfurt Intl-Kuwait-Dammam: 3x weekly A330-300/A340-300 service (3 out of 7 weekly Kuwait services extended replacing Dammam-Abu Dhabi)

21.09.2008 - TUIfly (Germany) (X3/Hanover) has reportedly also started merger talks with Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) after similar talks with Condor (DE/Frankfurt Intl), Eurowings (EW/Dortmund) and germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) have not yet lead to any results. It will configure a B737-800 for VIP charters in October. It has announced new services from its Memmingen base:
Memmingen-Brindisi: weekly B737-300 service starting on November 1
Memmingen-Catania: 2x weekly B737-300/-700 service starting on March 7
Memmingen-Palermo: weekly B737-300 service starting on December 6
Memmingen-Tel Aviv Ben Gurion: weekly B737-300 service starting on April 1
Memmingen-Thessaloniki: weekly B737-300 service starting on April 6
It will however terminate its Muenster/Osnabrueck-Venice Marco Polo route on November 30 and its Hanover-/Stuttgart-Stockholm Arlanda routes on January 11. It will also temporarily suspend its Hanover-Pisa route between October 30 and March 31.
