Albatron starts serving up ATI graphics

Another exclusive Nvidia deal dashed
Friday, 3 April 2009, 22:46

OVER THE PAST 12 months or so Nvidia has been seeing many high profile partners jump off the exclusivity train.

Today brings yet another one, Albatron, which is starting out on the high end of the ATI spectrum.

Box_HD4890_RGB
HD4890, not a bad place to start

People don't give Albatron much credit, but they do some very good work, just not in the high end and flashy side of the market. If you recall, they were one of the first to push µATX boards for desktop CPUs, and it worked out nicely.

Now they are jumping into the market on the high end of the ATI Stream, make that stream, as NV loses another exclusive. This means that within the past 12 months the firm has lost four partners Gainward, XFX and EVGA and now Albatron. It just goes to show that when you treat your partners like you treat everyone else, it eventually has repercussions.

To use the vernacular, "that'll learn em", except that it won't. I wonder if they noticed that shorts on the company have almost doubled since the beginning of the year? Albatron wouldn't be bad enough news to bet that much money on, so what is it? µ

I can't decide.

Nvidia going bust slowly and painfully vs Nvidia going bust spectactularly and screaming "it's not fair we didn't deserve this".

Really fkin tough choice that one.

I could tell

this was another Charlie article by looking at the subtitle. I really wonder, would Albatron be receiving this lavish praise if they were an ATi partner that decided to start selling nVidia cards too? Something tells me not.

Nvidia deserve beating

Nvidia and their partners deserve beating. I have seen so many HP laptops with Nvidia inside with defective chipsets , bought from PC World or another DSG outlet. If you are in one year extended warranty period, and you know about this extended HP warranty you may be safe but if you just passed this two year year period then some rude 'Tech Guys' DSG employee will tell you to get lost.

I am wondering...

I am wondering if there are any ATI partners that are now making Nvidia cards as well. It just makes business sense to get a larger piece of the market by selling both lines, especially these days. And Charlie, I always enjoy reading your articles whether they are true or not.

EVGA not in ATI wagon

What are you Charlie talking about EVGA? You were wrong a year ago and EVGA still hasn't defected to ATI. Perhaps it'd be time to admit it, eh?

Man, i just got this EVGA 4890, and let me tell you its friggin cool. It costs a ton more than my EVGA GTX260 216, uses more power, has so-so performance and has the greatest software driver in the world.

Nice going Alba

Lotsa nvidia HC fanbois like "dave" keep pushing their nasty hate filled comments. Doesn't matter. ATi will prevail eventually simply because they have better price/performance GPU architecture and better business plan. And those ex-nvidia only partners see it too.
