Personal data :
Born in Prague on December 10, 1937. He has 3 children (Jan – 1967, Anna-Carolina – 1968, and Karel-Filip – 1979). He is divorced. In 1948 the family was forced to emigrate to Austria.

Education :
1957 study of law and forestry at the University in Vienna, Munich and Graz.
In 1965 takeover of administration of family estates in Austria and Bavaria.

Profesional and political activities :
1984–1991 the President of the International Helsinki Committee for Human Rights; in this position he was in 1989 together with Lech Wa≥Ísa honoured with the Prize of Human Rights of the Council of Europe
1989 – return to the homeland
January 1, 1990 – the member of the College of consultants of Prezident VŠclav Havel
July 11, 1990 – July 1992 the Chancellor of Prezident VŠclav Havel
1992 – management of his estates in Souhern Bohemia
2002 – honoured with the Order T.G.M. III. Class
Since December 2004
– Senator of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for the constituency No. 6
– the member of the Senate Committee for the affairs of the European Union
– the member of the Permanent delegation of the Parliament of the »R in the Parliamentary Assembly of the NATO since December 2006
– the Chairman of the Senate´s Committee for Foreign affairs, Defence and Security
– the Member of the the Permanent delegation of the Parliament of the »R in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
