Sochi 2014 Delegation Visits Vancouver 2010 At Five-Year Countdown

A high-level Sochi 2014 delegation is visiting Vancouver February 6 to 8 to gain key Olympic and Paralympic insights of preparations for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

The delegation is led by Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko joined by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak. The Sochi 2014 team is touring Vancouver's Olympic venues and holding discussions with Vancouver 2010 officials.

Friday the delegation will tour the Richmond Olympic Oval, visit the Olympic and Paralympic Village and meet with VANOC officials.

The delegation will also meet Canada's Minister for International Trade Stockwell Day, attend Olympic seminars at Simon Fraser University, and visit Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum for the national figure skating championships.

Saturday the group will be in Whistler at the Olympic and Paralympic Park, the Mountain Athletes' Village and the Sliding Centre which is hosting the top class bobsleigh competition for the Canadian title.

Sochi 2014 President and CEO, Dmitry Chernyshenko said in a press release, "Sochi 2014 will benefit immensely from the insights we gain here from VANOC officials and those involved in Games preparations. 2009 will see Sochi 2014 Olympic venues under construction, the launch of our Olympic brand and the continued development of our sponsorship program that has just seen two major Tier One partners announced. With five years to go until Sochi 2014, we are working hard to deliver a truly innovative Winter Games that inspires the world".
