Overview
Moise Fokou is a linebacker who was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 230th pick in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. Fokou attended the University of Maryland, where he played for three seasons after transferring from Division III Frostburg State University in 2005. Fokou originally walked on for the Terrapins, but went on to become an integral member of Maryland's defense and one of the best linebackers in the ACC. Fokou is 6-feet, 2-inches tall, and weighs 225 pounds.
Prep Career
Moise Fokou played high school football at The Bullis School in Potomac, MD. Fokou made appearances at linebacker and running back in high school, and was named conference MVP after his senior year. Fokou also played two years of basketball for Bullis. Coming out of high school, Fokou did not draw notice from any major universities, so he chose to attend Frostburg State with the intention of transferring to a FBS institution as soon as possible.
Freshman Year
Playing linebacker at Frostburg State, Fokou recorded 70 tackles in 10 games, including two games in which he posted 10. He also blocked a pair of kicks and had 1.5 sacks. He then took out a loan and paid his own tuition to transfer to the University of Maryland.
Transfer
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Fokou had to sit out the 2005 season, but he still made an impression on Ralph Friedgen and his staff with his work on the scout team. In fact, Fokou impressed his coaches enough with his scout team performances to earn a scholarship in the summer of 2006.
Sophomore Year
Moise Fokou played in all 13 of the Terps' games during the 2006 season, backing up Erin Henderson at linebacker and making appearances on special teams.
Junior Year
By 2007, Fokou had worked his way into the starting lineup at strong-side linebacker. Fokou started all 13 games for Maryland in his junior season, recording 84 tackles, including eight for a loss. He also made two sacks and forced three fumbles. Fokou came up with his first interception in the Emerald Bowl against Oregon State.
Senior Year
Fokou had offseason shoulder surgery prior to his senior year, but he did not miss a game. In fact, Fokou ended his collegiate career having played in all 39 of Maryland's games during his three seasons with the team. In 2008, Fokou led Maryland with five sacks, the most by a Terrapin since Shawne Merriman's 8.5 in 2004. His 77 tackles were the third-most on the team, with a career-high 12 of those tackles coming for a loss. His 12 tackles for loss were also a team high.
Personal
Fokou's given name is Moise, but he goes by Moses. Fokou was born in Cameroon, and immigrated to the United States at the age of five. He originally played soccer before switching to American football. Fokou cites Ray Lewis as his favorite linebacker. Fokou's brother, Achille Kolla, participated in football and track and field at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
