Revillagigedo Island
 
 
Revillagigedo Island (1,120 sq mi/2,901 sq km), in Alexander Archipelago, SE Alaska, separated from mainland (E) by Behn Canal, and from Prince of Wales Isl. (W) by Clarence Strait; 55 mi/89 km long, 30 mi/48 km wide; center near 55°35'N 131°06'W. Rises to 4,592 ft/1,400 m on Mt. Reid (E). Ketchikan in S. Fishing, canning, logging. Visited by Rus., Eng., and Span. explorers and named (1793) for Count Revilla Gigedo, viceroy of Mexico (1789–1794).
