Contestant from the Northeast reagion wins title after 20-yerar-long drought

São Paulo, BRAZIL, May 10 – Larissa Costa, 25, 1.76-m-tall, Miss Rio Grande do Norte, was the surprising winner of the Miss Brazil Universe pageant, last Saturday night.

The 3-hour-15-minute-long show ended with the crowning of a candidate from the Northeast region for the first time in 20 years.

Rayanne Moraes of Minas Gerais, was the runner-up, and will compete in Miss International 2009.

Denise Ribeiro, Miss Distrito Federal, was the 2nd runner-up, and is expected to compete in Miss American Continent 2009, in Ecuador.

Miss Pará, Rayana Breda, was the third runner-up, and Miss Ceará, Khrisley Karle, was the 4th runner-up.

Rounding out the top 10, were Misses Bahia, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

Miss Pernambuco was named Miss Congeniality, and Miss Minas Gerais won the Best State Costume Award.

The show was hosted by Renata Fan (Miss Brazil Universe 1999) and Nayla Micherif (Miss Brazil Universe 1997).
