Lacey Turner as Stacey SlaterEastEnders' Stacey Slater has been behaving oddly of late.

But Stace's struggle is set to get worse over the coming weeks as her storyline begins to explore mental illness.

In one of the soaps hardest-hitting plots yet, Stacey will be diagnosed with bipolar disorder following her increasingly erratic behaviour since Danielle's death. The change in her personality will first be noticed by mum Jean, who also suffers from mental health problems.

Actress Lacey Turner said: "It's great that EastEnders is continuing to raise awareness of this difficult issue. I hope I can do justice to this challenging storyline."

EastEnders' executive producer Diederick Santer added: "Stacey is a character of highs and lows, of great passions and dark moods.

"Those contrasts become bigger and we realise her mood is far more complex that simply being upset about her friend's death."
